Has anyone claimed this on their taxes. If you recieve a refund for this credit the previous year do you deduct subtract it from the amount you file for the new year.

    Lena,

If I'm correct the Hope Tax Credit does not have to be deducted from 1999's 1040 if you received a refund back from the IRS. The university/college should have sent last year's tutition information to you sometime in early 2001 that you can deduct on 2000's 1040. You can find more information at the IRS's web site - www.irs.gov/hot/not97-60.html (I'm sorry I don't know to link the pages). Hope this helps.

    Lena,

Sorry I messed up. Hope Tax Credit does not have to be deducted on 2000's 1040 if you received a refund for 1999's 1040. It's been a long day.
