I had an ER hospital visit in november that cost $13,000. I've been uninsured since may. I got married a year ago this month, but my wife and I have kept our finances separate. (I don't even know her exact income.) I am applying for charitable forgiveness of the debt from the hospital, based on my income, but they are asking about "household income" on the form.
Am I required to disclose her income even if we file our taxes separately? Would a prenup (postnup at this point) make any difference? if we have such a document to separate our assets, can they still go after her income?

If you have other major bills involving big $ amounts go see a bankruptcy lawyer.

As far as your initisl question is concerned - yes you would have to list your wife's income in your total household income figure. Wahington is a community property state.
