Hubby & I went to Best Buy today to get a new puter that we really need. We applied for the 6 mo, 0% financing. We could've paid cash, but we went nutty at Xmas & reserves are low.
They declined me! I got on the phone w/ the lady & she said it was because of lates on mortgage. I asked her what she was looking at, because I haven't had a late on ANYONE since 2000. Not only that, I've got positive lines w/ no lates at all. My scores aren't fantastic, but they're not *that* bad either. Our monthly income is pretty nice.
She said she didn't care, she was hung up on the old lates. I felt like it was HER decision & not any criteria to follow.
I'm going to PFB them. Hubby was so bummed that we didn't buy the computer (we had other means, but were hoping for that 0% stuff).
    They're on MY blacklist now.

I had a similar experience in 1999. I had good credit, but I wanted to purchase a computer for six months 0% interest. Well, I apply and Best Buy (Benefical/Household) gives me $500. I was so ticked. I left the store without buying anything. Hubby and I then drove over to CompUSA (did not know it was the same bank). I got a credit line totaling $2500. Same bank, same criteria. Guess who we purchased the new computer from?

You may not think so, but it was probably a good thing not being approved. Everything I have ever purchased from Best Buy has broken one month after having it - CD player, CDs, and stereo system. The stereo has been returned twice already. :(

    nursie,

They closed both my cards including Bestbuy and CompUSA before the card arrived. They told me they couldn't verify employment. No more them.

If you are ever DENIED at a store for "INSTANT CREDIT"...DON'T pay another way!!!

Make sure they know you will go to another store for your purchase...and you PROBABLY won't be back!!!

i got denied for household best buy card, they sent me a gold household (no fee, 3.9% for 6 months, free $25 best buy GC) card instead.

    go figure. i can't beat 3.9% for 6 months and $25 GC , so its a keeper.

best buy is so overpriced anyways, you can do better than that :)

Did they offer you this becuase you complained? Or they just used your profile from the denied application to make you an offer? (you saved them a promotional inquiry? LOL)

All this stress over Best Lie. I never buy from Best Lie anymore because they have truly atrocious customer service. As a customer at Best Lie you have absolutely no rights. I bring my dollars to Circuit Shi*ty instead.

I appled at bestbuy.com, there is a checkbox to accept a household card if you are applying. Figured why not. Denied best buy, approved household. This isn't their subprime product, btw, theres no annual fee, and 6 months of 3.9% is reasonable. the go-to sucks, but i'll work that later.

Hey Sam.... how many zero's after that 25?
I signed the part of the app for the credit card. I figured since it was on the same inquiry, why not.
When I PFB, I'll make it to both Household and BestBuy.
I think I'll head out to Circuit City. My only other choice is Staples, & their prices are way out of line.

I've never heard of Vaio. Where did you get it?

The household card came like 3 weeks after i applied too, so you might call up household (prime) and ask about the application.
