Have been lurking here for several months due to problems with my husband's credit card use/abuse but this is my first post. The situation is this - in February I got a phone call at home from RMA about a MC account from Household Finance in my husband's name that was months overdue. FYI - the card had been taken out using a PO box # and all billing had been sent there - I knew nothing of this account but was not surprised due to my husband's history. Anyway - reached a settlement agreement with RMA to make 2 payments - one in Feb., one in March. The first payment was made in Feb by auto deduct from our checking acct. the second payment in March was never deducted. When I called RMA they said HFC had pulled the acct. from RMA on 3/11 and we needed to deal with them. Thankfully I had everything in writing from RMA so faxed it all to HFC asking for an explanation and requesting that they honor the settlement agreement made with RMA. That was 2 weeks ago - no response from HFC. Today we got a new billing from HFC that shows the Feb. settlement payment but nothing else and has a late payment charge as well. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? What should we do? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. BethH
Surely there is someone out there that can help this person! From a logical standpoint it would seem that Household would have to honor the agreement made on their behalf. But I don't have any proof to back up my assumption. Anyone out there that knows how to handle this?
Thanks for the vote of confidence - I was really hoping someone could give me some advice about this. Anyone?????
I would send a letter to Household basically spelling out what you put in your post, along with copy of agreements from RMA. Dispute the late charge based on that agreement, and let them know that once you here from them, and the lc has been credited, with an agreement that no further late charge will incur, you will then send them a payment for the balance as agreed to by their assignee RMA.
Update - Faxed letter with RMA documents to them two weeks ago and had not heard a thing. Today my husband called them and basically got the runaround and had to fax everything again. He is supposed to talk with them again this afternoon or tomorrow to get this resolved once they have had a chance to look over the documentation. I will update again - hopefully with some positive info. Thanks for the advice and support!
