Anyone with store cards issued by Household, keep an eye on how they report your accounts. Especially if you included them in a bankruptcy. Got my Equifax update today, what a disappointment. I am so angry I can just scream! Beneficial used to issue Best Buy, K-Mart (the store card), and American Blinds. These accounts were sold to Household back in late 1999. I also had a Harlem Furniture credit card account that Citibank sold to Household in 1998. I filed bankruptcy against all these accounts in 2000. When I received my first post BK report in 1/01 I was stunned to find out that these accounts were being reported on all three bureaus as included in a Chapter 13 debt adj. These accounts have been disputed on all three reports and have come back verified. For some reason on Equifax my old Best Buy, K-Mart, and American Blinds accounts are being reported as Beneficial Accounts. Today on my Equifax report my K-Mart account came back verified as Chapt. 13 and my old American Blinds account changed from Chapt. 13 to charge off. These accounts were all discharged in Chapter 7. I have never filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy. I wrote to Household at the end of August to promptly correct these accounts or face legal action. If you have a Chapter 7 and the accounts you included do not indicated discharged or included in bankruptcy it causes all sorts of red flags when you go to open an installment loan. Not to mention what it will do if you ever go to obtain a mortgage. If Household thought I was joking when I wrote my letter last month and this is their response to it, I am not laughing. I don't think they will be laughing either once my attorney draws up the papers to sue them for numerous FCRA violations. When you file a Chapt. 7 BK, the BK court promptly sends out notices to your creditor to automatically stay any further collection and billing attempts. They are also notified by the court of the meeting of the creditors. Funny thing is I reaffirmed two accounts with them so that I could keep my computer and a piece of furniture, so they are well aware of the discharged Chapter 7. So to all those of you that have Household accounts that were filed in BK, keep a close tab on your credit reports once your BK has been discharged. Well it looks as though I'm off to write a demand letter and forward this paperwork to my attorney in the morning.
