I wonder how EX can verify a late payment history on a cc if the cc company has no information?????

Hubby has late pays on an old account with a paid in full balance. He called cc co, and they didn't have any data re: payment history or anything...just that, yes, he did have an account with them. Disputed with all 3 CR's. EX came back with a verified. How the hell can they verify something that there are no records on. I wonder if he should call cc co back and ask if they were ever contacted by EX. I busted EQ (CSC) when they recently did this.

What a pisser! No info whatsoever could be found by the cc co! GRRRRR. Maybe the other 2 cra's will have different results.

I have been amazed at what the EVIL EXP claims to verify.

Frankly, I think they just lie.

I would write the OC and ask them for statement of the account for your records and when they come back with the sorry the dog ate the records letter then slam whoever with that letter demanding a deletio.
    If that fails TTATC

I know that OC's dont have to validate. Are they required to send me this information, or is it "goodwill" on their part if they do?

Coin toss theory sounds like a weee-ner.

    Evil EXP, haha
    no joke.

Well, I will do just that and will await the results of the other 2 investigations. bastards.

    TTATC...hee hee.

I know that TU admitted htey had OLD info about this account, but when we brought tho their attention that their info doesn't match what is in cc co's records, they agreed to investigate. I wonder if EX used old info they had on file. I'll call the cc co and ask if anyone investigated.

    Thanks guys,

You can dispute it directly with the OC and have them correct the information. Read Sec. 623 of the FCRA.

    a) Duty of furnishers of information to provide accurate information.

    (1) Prohibition.

    (A) Reporting information with actual knowledge of errors. A person shall not furnish any information relating to a consumer to any consumer reporting agency if the person knows or consciously avoids knowing that the information is inaccurate.

    (B) Reporting information after notice and confirmation of errors. A person shall not furnish information relating to a consumer to any consumer reporting agency if

    (i) the person has been notified by the consumer, at the address specified by the person for such notices, that specific information is inaccurate; and

(ii) the information is, in fact, inaccurate.

    (C) No address requirement. A person who clearly and conspicuously specifies to the consumer an address for notices referred to in subparagraph (B) shall not be subject to subparagraph (A); however, nothing in subparagraph (B) shall require a person to specify such an address.

    (2) Duty to correct and update information. A person who

    (A) regularly and in the ordinary course of business furnishes information to one or more consumer reporting agencies about the person's transactions or experiences with any consumer; and

    (B) has furnished to a consumer reporting agency information that the person determines is not complete or accurate, shall promptly notify the consumer reporting agency of that determination and provide to the agency any corrections to that information, or any additional information, that is necessary to make the information provided by the person to the agency complete and accurate, and shall not thereafter furnish to the agency any of the information that remains not complete or accurate

I would go to the OC too. They may just send you a letter stating that they do not show any lates for this account or that the account does not exist. You can then send this info to the CRA to have them delete the lates or tradeline. Most of the time with an old account that the OC does not have any info on they will be more the willing to send you what you need to get it off of your reports.

They have to update the information with the CRA as well. The letter is great backup, but they cannot report known inaccurate or unverifiable information.

Hi, don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have the same problem. I wrote the OC twice for info on my account. OC came back to me with a photocopied form letter that basically said "don't know who you are, need more info." Someone had handwritten the comment "Need your ssn.."

This is the second CRRR request to the OC. Should I send them the SSN or just let it go and in 30 days, challenge the CRAs who say my accounts with this OC have been verified?

    Thanks for the insight.

I had the same question. If you request validation from OC do you need to give acct number and ssn? If you give name and address they should be able to look up any account, no?
