Ok long story short. Got married had kids, realized she was a wack job, got divorced, got custody of my boys, got my credit fragged up in the meantime. Current situation been dating the same girl for 3 years. She has two kids of her own (yes that makes four). I have a house (on land contract) her is paid off. We are trying to beat my credit into shape before we get married. Her credit score is (not kidding) 800 mine is just above 560. We both earn a decent living, but neither are saving a huge amount of money. (Daycare and healthcare) Which since I have great health care would help her out and her picking up the kids in the evening would help that. So here's the question, I am already a AU on her Citi card but we are both kind of lost on how to economically add new trade lines to my credit whats the wisest way to add new credit lines? Most of the garbage from my ex is off with a few exceptions. my thoughts were... Secured Credit Card Maybe a car loan. I drive a 1999 Durango but it hardly makes sense to replace $150 of gas with $200 of a car payment... Any ideas?
Do you have any credit cards in your personal name? If not, I suggest you take a look through the the card offers on this site and choose one that is the right fit for you. Use it every month to make your regular purchases and pay it off every month as well. Just a thought, but do you have enough equity in your home to take out a small home equity line of credit as well? If so, the rates are the lowest they have been in many years and it is always nice to have the line available in a time of need. You can then use a small portion of the line to do a little home improvement project or something. Pay it off over a few months and build your credit along the way.
