for trying to pass along their merchant fee? They wouldn't accept my credit card for an order under $10--otherwise, they would add $.50 to my order. Not that 50 cents is going to break my bank, but even after I told them that is against visa/mc/amex policy, they still charged me. Also gave me attitude. This is why I want to bust them so badly... what should I do??
Their was a post on this a few days ago. Do a search on "How to bust a Visa Merchant." Their's a number to call in that thread. EdG
Done. Filed a complaint with MC and Amex. Visa told me to call my bank and other hassle, so I figured two would be enough. The lady was glad I called to report, she said "We want to know when merchants are violating policy." Glad I did it--I wouldn't have even bothered, but since this merchant went out of their way to be rude about a $10 minumum charge, I went out of my way to call MC and Amex merchant services!! I'll check back in a few weeks and see if their "NO CC UNDER $10" sign is removed
The reasoning behind the $10.00 MINIMUM is that the very small sale costs them too much money...but it is a "COST OF DOING BUSINESS"...say you charge "STUFF" @ $1.00 the store made $0.15 on the merchandise...but has to pay the credit card processing service 3% + $0.25 for each charge...THEY MADE $0.15~~~BUT IT "COST" THEM $0.28... They DON'T see the "COST OF DOING BUSINESS" part of it...they make NO money on the gas, electric, water, sewer, trash, rent...BUT IT IS ALL A WRITE OFF!!!
Have EVERYBODY you know go to that business with their credit card in hand and "PICK OUT" $5.00-$9.00 WORTH OF STUFF TO BUY...AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS... DON'T PAY IN ANY OTHER WAY~~~TELL THEM TO WALK!!! Before they go on their shopping spree, inform them about MINIMUM charges being ILLEGAL IN MANY STATES and VIOLATES CREDIT CARD POLICY!!!
I would also go out of my way to not do business with the merchant again. This is also what we should be doing with the bankers.
