How do I know who the CA is?

I'm a newbie to credit repair so this is probably the first of many questions. I've been reading this forum for over a month now and I am trying to get a handle on this tremendous wealth of information.

Anyway, I have disputed all of the negative information on my credit reports with the CRA's, with some deletions, but most of the accounts came back verified. Now I am ready to go on to the next step in the process and that is validating with the CA's. Here is where my question comes in.

How do I know who the collection agency is for a particular account? I have copies of my credit report from all 3 CRA's and all of them list the original creditor. There are no collection agencies reporting on my credit. All of the negative entries that still remain on my credit report are charged-off so I am pretty sure that the accounts have been sold/transferred to a CA. (Is that a safe assumption?) Should I just call the original creditor and ask for the status of my account? Should I ask if the account has been sold, and if so, who has the account now? Or should I write to the CRA's and ask for a detailed description of their verification procedure, including the company that they contacted and who they spoke to?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

from wha I found not every account in my credit report that has been charged off has a CA assigned to it. although it should be fairly clear to tell the difference between the OC and the CA. A collection account should have the name of the original creditor...

    Example..

    Arrow Financial (DWEEB)
    acount # 123456789
    amount a gajillion dollars
    Creditor Sears

chances are if a CA has an account wether assigned or purchased that they have it reported.

I could be wrong though :)

Thanks for the info. I do know that at least one or two of the accounts have been sold/assigned to a collection agency though because they have left messages on my answering machine. However, none of the collection agencies are listed on any of my credit reports. Maybe someone else can shed a little more light on the topic.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it!

You can tell if it is a CA's b/c it will have.... in the letter.... This is an attempt to Collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. You just have to pay attention b/c they don't always put it in the letter....they will stick it at the bottom of the page.

Not all CA's report.... but most of them do.
