I just finished my bankruptcy. Many say I can remove all info from the credit bureaus? How is this done and what are the steps?

Should I just dispute as not mine?

What did you file? A BK-7 or 13? In my case I filed BK-7 and was able to get it removed from my report due to inaccurate info that was being reported. The amount of liabilities was wrong, the judge's name was wrong, my attorney's name was wrong. Basically a bunch of technicalities but it wasn't easy.

Another thing was it took time. To me it was probably the easiest thing to verify. You call the court, enter the docket number and the automated system gives the caller all the details.

Anyway, nothing is impossible just be patient. Good luck!

It was chpt 7 . Very nasty mess. I kept a few credit cards and my car. So I have some good accounts showing R1. I kept my car so how will GMAC report this. I never missed a payment. Will it be reported still as a R1???

    I'm sorry, james,

I was being sassy -- the title of your post just got me giggling.

Miami is telling you straight up, nodding.

None taken. Sassy. I have been the joke for awhile among my friends. I had it all. Then lost it all thanks to 9-11. From 250k a year in income to 15k a year. To nothing. All my cards went bad. I discharged 180k in credit card debt. 90k alone in Amex charges.

    James,

Oh dear, that's not funny at all! Was there not some kind of emergency legislation passed for 9-11 impacts and victims?

No. Just lost my job. I was in the airline industry on a executive level. Nobody is hiring now. I am SOL. Plus the fact that my bureau now will say BK7 on it. Many new employers run background checks that include credit. Thats why I need help.

I was thinking of sending 399.00 to a company called National Credit Repair. They said they help remove bk7. I might just be a rip off company. It just sounds to good to be true.

    James,

I can sure relate. I lived in Europe for many years and had a VERY lucrative practice working with investments for Military Personel.

BOOM - Gulf War started and I lost ALL of it.

    Been there done that.

Read this board profusely and follow the advice of the majority. Give yourself time and stick to it.

    You'll get there.

    Welcome to the board.

Thanks everyone, I just feel like a big failure. I had it all and lost it all. I just have to get that BK7 and all the credit lines on my bureau with the BK7 rating removed. Then at least I could get a job back in my field.

    James,

Do you remember a company called Easter Airlines? I worked for them until the end. So I can relate to what your saying. I went through a divorce, then EAL went down the tubes and a year later after I was broke I said enough was enough.

I know its tough at first but trust me, it will get better! Its been 10 years since my BK-7 and I now have a home, 2 cars, a wonderful wife, a few $$$ saved and thanks to the crew on this board a half way descent credit rating.

You'll be just fine, just give it time.

    James,

Credit repair organizations aren't supposed to charge you up front for their services, that said, a lot of them do and get away with it. The truth is they can't do anything for you that you can't do for yourself.

I'm not familiar with the company you listed, other posters here have used Lexington, they are about $20 per month and you pay as you. We've also discussed pre-paid legal services which is about the same money and a pay as you go plan as well. Do a search if you're interested to read the experiences others have had with them.

I'd encourage you to go at it yourself. It's very empowering to take some control back and move forward. I think that is what keeps a lot of us here posting and chugging along, working our plans, it makes you feel good to be in charge of your finances and life again. Something about bankruptcy squashes your spirit; hold your head up high, life happens, you did what you had to do -- now take some of it back!!!!!!!! And besides, James, you too can be a credit-net addict ;-)

The nutshell version is this: You've a right to dispute the information on your credit reports with both the CRA's and the information furnishers. You've a right to request validation of debt collectors. There are different techniques and rules to follow depending on who you are dealing with. All information reported, every piece, not just the individual tradelines, must be accurate, complete, updated and verifiable. You're in charge of seeing that it is.

Here is a summary of your rights: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs...credit/fcra.htm

Here is what information furnishers have to do: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs...ubs/infopro.htm

Be sure to read the FAQ here, linked at the top of the message threads, also see the sample letters. This board has the best, most thought out, brilliant posters and the search button can become a new best friend ;-)

This site (no searching involved) will give you an overall 101 of what it is to do credit repair for yourself: http://mixsix.com/credit/

This site will give you a 101 of the Validation process: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/debt_validation.shtml

Here's 3 threads describing my own experiences with C13 related reporting, Lisa too, we're on a parallel path:

    Good luck, James, good reading!

Nice to meet you and welcome to the board.

I do hope you will give your reports a go yourself, it feeds your mind, body, and spirit!!!!!!!

If your credit cards weren't listed in your bk, they may survive it. It's up to the companies themselves if they'll leave them open. I had three that survived mine and only one choose to close due to my bk. Also, your car will keep showing up to date payments usually only if you've reaffirmed it in during your case. If not, you wouldn't be the first to be fuming over a history of on time payments to an account that reads "included in bk" with no other history.

I've heard some lenders will offer you a statement of the history of payments of some sorts though if you need it. And I've also heard of some people's loans who still update their payments even with the bk notation. You may just have to wait and see how they'll report.

I filed myself Mar 01. I know it's not easy. I've had NO luck getting anything off but all we can do is try on the "technicalities" like the posters have said. Despite my bk, my scores are still pretty good. You can rebuild still, even though job wise I know it's not much consolation.

    I wish you luck!
