How do you determine damages?

I am helping my son clean up a credit mess he didn't make.

He has the same first and last name as my ex husband(his dad), but a different middle name. His dad has 7 judgements, most paid. 3 of these are continually listed on my son's credit report. He has been denied credit because of these judgements.

We have gone through all the steps and with one "creditor" are at the filing suit stage. How the heck do you do this? I have the paperwork, and know the violation is $1000,per, but what about the denials for credit? Are they worth anything? How do you determine the value?

The latest letter from the "creditor" states, "... and it will continue to be reported. We were awarded a judgement against you in 1999." My son was 13 in 1999!

I think I have it figured out. Not the damages part, but so far I've got them for

    1) Incorrect info
    2) Failure to validate
    3) Failure to report as disputed.

Those 3, plus fees, etc. will take it to near the max amount for small claims.
