How do you prove you sent C&D?

I know this is a simple question, but how do you prove that you sent a C&D letter? Having a return receipt just proves they received something from you, but not necessarily a C&D letter.

    Good question.

A lot of us on here make a misstep when sending CRRR.

    When you do, do it like this;

    ABC Collections
    123 West Street
    Anytown, US 12345

Cert. Mail # XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX

    Attn. Nitwit Collector,

    Dear Nitwit,

    Blah.

ALWAYS put the cert mail # INSIDE the letter!

Another question on this, (Sorry, I am new at this too).

Since I have the letter typed, at the post office, I just hand write the cert# in there before sealing it up? Or do you get the cert stuff, then go home and type it up?

I have never sent a letter that way, but will be doing so shortly.

    Thanks

    Ditto

I also make a photocopy of the letter complete with the return reciept before I stick it on the envelope.

Any clever CA could claim the envelop had a blank piece of paper in it. It has been challanged in court before. You must be able to show the judge a link between the letter and the number.

    1) Go to the post office.

    2) Pick up 10 CRRR forms (9 for future items).

    3) Go home, prepare your letter(s), and as Butch noted, fill in the CRR# from one of the forms you picked up in step 2 (the new ones even have a sticky - prefilled in receipt)

    4) Then as Hermit noted, photocopy the letter - with the receipt.

    5) Drive back to the post office and send CRRR letter(s).

    - Peace, Dave

PS you can save many steps above if you have a kinkos next to your post office :)

If you have a return receipt from the CA, it will be presumed that you sent C & D. After all, why would you send an empty envelope and then say you sent C & D? Doesn't make much sense.
