How late can you be on a credit card payment and not have it show at a "30-day late?" I have a payment due on the 24th and I don't get paid until the 28th. Will they report me as 30 days late for paying 4 days late? It is for MBNA line of credit. I don't have any lates on any of my reports. But I'm going to be late this month because I had to put money down on an apartment and I'm low on cash. Any advice would be helpful - thanks
Just call them, tell them your payday is out of cycle, and the payment will be 4 days late. If you have never been late in the past, it should be OK.
I don't recommend it, but I have pushed the limit with Orchard, Cross Country, Capital One and Capital One Auto Finance. Paid on day 29 several times and never had a late reported. Paid some outrageous fees however.
I would call them and ask them. They should be able to tell you and you definitely want to know for certain.
Yup, as some of these cc have the policy of even one day late they jack up your rates as well. Best regards, Mirage
It is not 30 days late until it is 30 days late. If your payment is 3 or 4 days late, as you plan, it cannot be reported to the credit bureaus as 30 days late. It must be actually 30 days. However, if it is just 1 day late, your credit card company can charge you fees and jack up your rates as the other posters have said. It is better to make your payments early. In addition, every day you pay early will save you some interest.
This is not exactly accurate ... Your balance is due on the Date Closing of the billing cycle. The banks are obligated by the law to give you at least 20 days grace period for payment, some give 30 days. So if you are 31 days late after your account closing date, they can report it. On the other hand, the "30 days late" is translated by them as "up to 30 days late", which means even one day late falls into this category. But, as few people have said - call them, tell them about the problem - in most cases they will hold it. Also, you may request a change of the account closing date, so the date due will be few days before the date you get paid. JMO
They probably won't report you, but they will jack your rate and charge you with a late fee. You might be better off writing yourself a check for a cash advance for your minimum payment, depositing it and making a timely payment.
I agree on giving them a call and a heads up. I'll add this thought - ask them to move the due date back to meet your pay cycles. Most of the time there is no problem doing this once in a while.
I would call them...most will change your due date if you ask. You may pay a late fee if you don't pay it on time!
