I'm trying to get our cc company to delete a 30 day late that was just reported. Long story short we moved so I didn't receive my stmt I sent the pymt in and they never received it. By the time they called me to say it wasn't received I was right at the 30 day late mark. I paid the past stmt balance plus another $500(normal $100/mo pymt) for good measure. They assured me that it would not be reported on my credit report but it just showed up. What is the best way to get this deleted? I've never had a late pay EVER! If they refuse to delete it how long will it stay on there? This has dropped my score by 50points....crazy!
since they have already said they would remove it, it seems like it might be a clerical error. just call them and let them know, and you can also just dispute it. good luck
That's the plan but if it turns into a he said/she said thing I was curious how long they stay on your report. Thanks!
How long will it stay? 7 years. By 30 days late, do you mean 30 days after your (missing) statement date, or 30 days after your due date? The best way to get it deleted is to hold them to their original promise. At this stage just be polite and assertive. Presumably, you are a good customer, giving them repeated business with a history of on-time payments. If they value you, they will remove it. Call them back, and explain the situation. The first CSR you talked to should have noted your earlier call in their records. They should follow thru and remove it. If that doesn't work, send a letter to their executive offices. Also, did you provide a change of address early enough to allow them to have sent the statement to your new address? If so, FCBA may come into play, if you need to push harder. (Look it up on the FTC site.)
