How long should I keep my Cap1 card before asking Mr. Cooke for an increase? My C/L now is only $250.
Im curious about this too! BTW - is your card secured or unsecured? I opened my secured (sent $99 rec'd $500 CL) Cap1 card in Oct 2002 and have excellent payment history so far...for the 5 months that is has been open.
I took advantage of that same offer ($99 for $500 CL) in 07/99. Since then, I have only received 1 CLI of $50. Yes, $50. I will say that although I have never been late with a payment, I tend to carry a high balance on the card (what do you expect though with only $500). Also, the couple of times that I asked for a CLI, I was told that because I was already close to my limit, they wouldn't grant it. Needless to say, I'm only keeping this card because its my oldest account, but it will definitely be sockdrawered. Lisa
I have two cards: MC opened 6/02 CL $500, $1000 credit line increase 11/02 by phone rep (not Cooke). Visa opened 9/98 CL $200, took a year to get it up to $400 via phone reps... no increases granted for 2 years, asked Cooke and he upped CL to $1100 a few months ago. The difference b/w the two cards-- I managed the MC much better, making multiple payments a month, frequently getting balance to 0, etc... I was not nearly as vigilant about paying my Visa and I'm pretty sure this is why it took so long to get a decent CL increase. Just a thought.
I got my Cap1 card in November of 2002 with a CL of $300. I charged up about $245 on it. Then they threw in my "annual fee" of $69 and what do you know? I'm over my limit. I made an online payment of $100.00 that day and called them about it. They said I won't get charged an 'over limit fee' because of my payment. Then just a few weeks later, I log on and what do you know? My CL was raised to $2250.00!!!! I didn't call them or anything. They just upped my limit. Go figure.
