Having cleeaned up my reports, then I got the two credit cards that I wanted (Chase 7K and BoA 12.5K), I am now doing what I can to "groom" my scores. How many credit card accounts is considered optimal? I know I need to wait 2-3 months for the changes to the above accounts to post (both tradelines were renegotiated when I cleaned up my score) before I apply for anything, but how many open credit cards accounts is optimal? I prefer only to have two (MC and VISA), but I seem to recall reading somewhere that three credit cards is considered optimal.

    Thanks

some say 3 to 5 some say 2 to 3 I think different loans are more important example mortgage loan installment loan 2 credit cards . I have 13 prime credit cards and scores in middle 700s so who knows.
