I have a Green card and I'm doing some card shopping. I am trying to see what cards are best and how many I can get. I'll keep some variety of the charge card for the membership rewards (one, currently Green) After that, I would only be interested in a card where a balance could be left if necessary. So it seems in order of best interest rates: Blue: 0 intro, 9.9 thereafter Optima Plat: 0 intro, 12.74 thereafter I am wondering if I couild have one each (when I qualify)... that would be 3 pretty useful cards and only a combined annual fee of 55. I am just not sure if you can even have that many of their cards (just becoming an Amexphile)
Marie, I have had up to four cards with AmEx at the same time: Personal (Green) Blue Gold Delta Skymiles Hilton Hhonors Optima Platinum I was approved for 3 of them with the help of the MORE dept. and allocation of previous credit lines. I closed the Green card, as I have another Visa account reporting as "open" with no annual fee, and no longer want to pay $55 a year for what is essentially a debit card. I also closed the Skymiles card ($30 annual fee) because that gave me 1 Skymile per dollar spent, and I get that for free with the Membership Rewards Options Program with Blue. You can still get rewards for free with the Membership Rewards Options (MRO) program (Blue and basic Optima cards). You don't get as high point conversions as you would with the complete Membership Rewards, but it may work depending on what you need in rewards. With MRO, I still get 1 Skymile per MRO point = 2 Hilton points, and this is all I care about. So my needs are met - with no annual fee.
Blue holders are assigned a "go to" APR between 9.99% and 14.99%, depending on their internal Amex score. The APR for Optima Platinum can be easily negotiated to either fixed 9.9% or variable P+4%. There is no limit to the number of credit cards or charge cards you can get. They have a rule of thumb of declining applications submitted less than 90 days after a previous card approval. But they have discretion and can sometimes waive that requirement. Keep in mind the intro rate of 0% (offered with Blue / Opt Plat) cannot be used for BTs. Saar
