how many credit cards application can you put in per twenty four hour period. also my banks swears that pulling your credit report does not effect your score.
will having three credit reports pulled in a twenty four hour period effect my score really bad? I want to apply on line and they ( my bank)want to pull my credit report with in two days for thier promotion.

Every time a hard inquiry is done, it lowers your score. Too many inquires in a short amount of time makes you look needy to lenders and you could get turned down just based on the amount of inquiries on a report. Mortgage inquiries and auto inquiries are supposedly counted differently if they are done in a short amount of time.

*But* if you know who pulls which report, and if there's only 1 inquiry per report in that short amount of time, it's not nearly as deterimental as say, 3 inquiries in 24 hours or even in 6 months.

Some people get hit really hard point wise for inquiries - I've lost anywhere from 1 point to 4 points PER inquiry... general concensus seems to be that the lower your score, the more they get you point wise for an inquiry.

General rule of thumb - use your inquiries sparingly.

Since your inquiry conscious and in case you missed the thread, Umbrella Bank pulls a soft inquiry when you apply for a checking/savings account with them online... and at that point they'll also let you know if you were approved for a Visa with them... they pull Experian... so if you've got the itch to apply, try these folks and you won't hurt your score by doing so.

For more info on Umbrella, such as what scores everyone had and whether or not they were approved, I suggest doing a search for Umbrella bank - there were, I believe, 2 or 3 threads going about this bank.

Mortgage INQs (coded correctly) count as one INQ if made within a 14-day period.

So 15 mortgage INQs made in 24 hours would count as one INQ. However, 15 credit card INQs made in a short period, will absolutely destroy your credit for 6-12 months.

General rule of thumb - the worse your credit, the more the inquiries hurt.

I was just denied a Discover card for one reason and one reason only...

    New Accounts

Yes, I opened new accounts LAST JUNE 2001 (2Citi) and August 2001 (Juniper) and now, even though score is in 700's and report is pretty clean (only a couple OLD 30day lates) I can't get a card.

I've almost got everything paid off now and the rest will be paid off by sometime this summer but I really would have liked 0% for the remaining balance since my other promos ran out and now I'm at 10.74%. Oh well...

will we every figure out this game?

Now I've got a useless inquiry on my report!

That's seriously bizarre... I applied the end of February for Discover and was approved for $3500....

Since December '01 I have gotten GetSmart, Target, Citi, and JCPenney, and they were all reporting when they pulled my report. A new mortgage was reporting as of 11/01 also.

That reasoning on their part is ridicules.
