How many times can it take to dispute the same thing over and over before it is removed? 10 times? 20? I have disputed the same thing 8 times with CSC Credit and they still keep verifying, but yet all of my items have been deleted from Transunion.
Probably the reason no one has responded is that there is no real answer to this. It depends upon the whims of so many people. It varies, there is no answer.
I know, it's discouraging when you post, so many experts in this area and no answers, even an answer saying "there is no specific amount of disputes" would be helpful. I feel the same way about my questions sometimes and I hate to even ask anymore. There are other boards out there who aren't burned out by "newbie" questions, I'm sure. This board is great in many other ways though.
most people i know it takes about 3 tries, but it really depends on the creditor, what you are trying o have disputed (late, not mine, etc), and the age of the TL.
One of the issues is a DISPUTE does not delete an entry. YOU have to have a valid dispute. If the account is NOT yours, or there are errors, then there are alternatives to a dispute. IF the accont is yours and you are just trying to get one over on the collection agency/reporting agency by "over disouting" in the attempts they cannot verify it within 30 days, YOU ARE being caught be them. Try to make it a little more clear what the account is, what the "real story" is and what you are trying to accomplsih
hiding90 - i agree to some extent. i know most of my disputes were due to actual errors and got lucky that the OC didn't respond. whatever the reason, consumers have the right to request investigation regardless if whether or not 100% accurate. for some, its merely to see if the OC's are maintaining accurate records. others are trying to simply see if they will come off.
The answer is that every single trade line, and every single CRA is different. Even within a single CRA, the result you get could be different depending on whose desk your dispute hits. It took me *TEN* months of continual dispute (there was actually a one month break in the dispute; while I waited for a response from the company through their atty) to get an account which was settled by a settlement with the FTC on the basis of FRAUD of the DATA FURNISHER. There is no specific answer which is a magic bullet, BECAUSE every single trade line, and every single CRA is different. The facts of the specific trade line which you are fighting are essential for determining which tactic will work best for you.
