I owe on a Verizon bill from last year. Recently saw this on credit report listed under a CA - amt looked wrong and I did a "not mine". Haven't heard back about credit reports. Looking thru old papers and found the last bill - amt is right after all. Also found ltrs from 4 diff CA's for this bill, apparently they changed every 1-2 months. Today rec'd ltr forwarded from old address from a 5th CA worded a little different "this acct has been listed with our office for collection" rather than "this was referred to us by verizon" - makes me wonder if this was sold. #5 was not on any credit reports yet. I won't be able to pay in full till May and was going to send it to verizon - in case it changes CA again. Should I wait to see if #4 is verified and then try to validate with them or #5 CA? From reading here it sound like verizon might sign a ltr asking them to stop collection and any of their CA's to stop - might not. So how can I best get this off my report? Refuse to pay unless verizon signs or who? I just want to pay it and have it disappear, was thinking that since this changes hands so frequently going to the OC might work best but I really don't know.
I had a Verizon account, so I can speak to my experience. I can't guarantee it will be representative, though. They didn't sell to the CA, only assigned. So, when I contacted them directly, they were able to negotiate. Problem was, the first rep I spoke with wouldn't sign anything, so I didn't trust him. Months later, I tried again and got someone who agreed to sign. Even then, when his supervisor signed off on it, they said, "No, we won't delete." All I had to do was fax the signed agreement and *POOF* - away they went. (As of this moment, 2 out of 3 CRAs have deleted, but I have a letter from Verizon stating that they have requested deletion from all three.) The retention number I called was 866-865-1822. Good luck!
this is a good strategy, to talk to Verizon directly. BUT don't forgot! You need to protect your first 30 days of rights from the letter you just received. You must dispute this with the CA within those 30 days. Can you hear me now? (sorry, but it was totally irresistable) (lol)
-Verizon has a policy to send an account to a collection agency for 6mo, then recall it if they have not received payment. -I had a similar situation, but they reaged the account. I wrote a letter pointing this out and they deleted the tradeline. -BUT, it is still with the collection agencies. -Since there are so many collection agencies involved, there is a good chance one or more maybe attempting to collect on the Verizon debt without "authority" from Verizon. This is a good case for FRAUD among other FDCPA violations.
Thank you all for your responses. I was really suprised to see so many different CA's in such a short amt. of time, then again Verizon is a huge operation. I'm going to re-check the dates to make sure it didn't get re-aged on my reports, didn't look for that since I was trying to get it deleted. I did wonder if any of these CA's no longer had authorization from Verizon, all had different dates and its why I didn't want to chance paying the wrong CA. I want to be sure payment gets applied. Hey, thank you for the Verizon number and your story (sorry, can't scroll back from here to be sure of your name..)It sounds like they might be willing just don't want to actually say that. I wish I could pay it now, have to work on the old bills that haven't reported yet first. Only 2 more oldies and then I can work on improving my cc's, hard to be patient though. 86thisdebt
http://newfunpages.com/taxform.php3 86thisdebt ================== You can't go to Verizon if they sold the debt to a CA. You must resolve this by sending the CA a validation letter. You need to read and study the blue links below in order to start getting a handle on how things work. ><- <>- ><- <> ~~~ ><- <>- ><- <> ><- <>- ><- <> ~~~ ><- <>- ><- <>
The point was that it was probably ASSIGNED, since it moves so frequently. If it was, they can deal with Verizon.
