Hi, my wife signed up for a Chase card at the beginning of the year and one of the main reasons for taking that card was that they were giving us 2 cards and I needed to have more accounts in my credit history. I called Chase 5-6 weeks ago to ask them to report me to the CRA' s and they said ok you will be reported. I called again a few weeks later and they said, you will be reported at the end of this billing cycle. That came and passed and I am still not reported. I called again and this time they told me that they don't regularly report authorized users and that they can only report by my name and that if I am not reported it means they didn't find an exact match for my name with the CRA's. I asked to talk to a supervisor and she ended by by hanging up on me after I kept saying I didn't understand why she, as a CSR couldn't make sure that I would be reported to the CRAs. She just gave me the address and fax number of their credit reporting department but wouldn't give me a phone number. Does anyone have any experience with this? Are they required by law to report authorized users just like they do main users? Is there any strategy that might work better in talking to CSR? What should I write if I send a letter to their credit reporting department? Another thing, this is only a 500$ card. Is it even worth it to have it reported since it has such a low CL? When you are reported as an AU, is the whole history since the account was opened posted to my account? Thank you, Ioan
Yes it is required by law if you are a spouse only. Look up the Equal Credit Opportunity Act on LAWDOG. Go to 202.10 and read "A creditor that furnishes credit information shall designate any new account to reflect the participation of both spouses if the applicant's spouse is permitted to use or is contractually liable for the account....." Your way is one way in which this law will help. In my situation (A charge off on my hubbys report-it hurts) and I am having a hard time ggeting it off. Send them a letter and include the above quote. I bet you will see results soon. But be sure you have some control over the account-don't get burned. Diane143
Great! Thanks Diane , this is what I needed. I will try faxing a letter with that quote or sending snail mail. I do have control over the account, I can monitor it online any time to see if anything is happening. I wish I could do it over the phone. Do you think a CSR might react positively if I quoted that over the phone? Thank you again, Ioan
I bet you they would not even know what you are talking about. I would get the actual ECOA and circle it and send it to them so they know you did not make it up.
