I would like to build my own website. I have no idea how to go about doing that though. Can I do myself? Is it better to get a professional to do it? What kind of equipment (if any) do I need? Who is a good service provider? Thanks for any and all help.

I'm taking a course next month at the local high school to learn how. It's free. I'll let you know how it goes. I tried once and could not do it myself.

I just took an intermediate Word course there and it was well worth it.

This is my area of expertise. What are you looking to do, exactly?

I was thinking about setting up a website for entertainment - kinda of a secretaries revenge. Horror boss stories, nasty telemarketers (I get to handle those on a daily basis), rude customers, etc.
Just someplace people can vent and tell their side.
I had checked the web for such a site and was surprised there wasn't one.

I have built a good many web sites, and it's really not that hard. Instead of a class get a copy of "Sam's HTML in 24 hours" Great book, I use for occasional reference.

If you need help setting one up please e-mail me, I'll be glad to help.

No problem. If you need any help please e-mail me. In fact, if you know what you want on your site and will type it up I can code it and put it on one of the free web servers pretty quickly. This might give you a nice head start on your site and as yu learn htm you can expend and change it as you wish.

    Dani:

There is an organization that gives an award each year to the worst boss. These are my favorite two stories from them:

    1. The boss gave the secretary a package, telling her to open it. He said he did not want to open it himself because he thought it may be a bomb.

    2. A single mom left her two kids at home with a nanny (a very elderly woman). The kids were about 4 and 5 years old. One day, the oldest child called and said the nanny was dead. The boss refused to let the single mom go home, saying the kids could take care of the problem.

    Dani,

I built my own website & one for my attorney. I recommend the SAM's book as well for starters. It's a quick read, and you'll be surprised how quickly you can set something decent up. There are various other resources if you want something really nice, but that will come with time.

    Good luck!
