A BK filing stays on reports for 7 to 10 years whither or not you go throught with it.

You can dispute public record as 'not mine' just like everything else.

It may take a few times, but eventually you will get lucky and it will be removed.

    Just be persistant.

But first get the address associated with it off your reports if you can.

Don't sound so glum.....it is very attainable. I had my Ch. 7 discharged in 10/03, and I was able to get it deleted from my Equifax report in 3/04......5 months later!!!!! I also had 2 filings(1st was dismissed, 2nd was discharged) Both are now gone from EQ.

Experian and TU are a bit harder though. They have verified each time I tried to dispute it. I was able to remove all old addresses on EQ, so that is probably what helped. I am in the process of trying to remove all of the addresses from EX and TU, and then see what happens.

    1st BK was dismissed.

What's the purpose in reporting dismissed BK filings?
They ought to be banned as a reportable item!

Never read the fine print. There ain't no way you're going to like it.

no offense but thats just stupid. why should they be banned. It it was accecpted and later discharged then you would still have a bk on your report. lets compare it to some guy with a gun a decides he is going to kill someone, so he decides to shoot he dosent kill the other person but he tries. so what if essentially he should be let off because he didnt actually go through with the murder? no its call attempted murder just like a failed attempt at bk is called dismissed.

    Just a comment.
Addresses are updated on credit reports from CREDITORS. Every time you change the address for your credit card statement, or applly to a home phone #, it gets updated. Only experian shows my previous address, since ATT pulled experian when i installed a home phone service, and it was updated the same month; TU and EQUFAX, dont show that, cause i never changed addresses for credit card statements.....

I think if this is done carefully, things could be avoided from credit reports.

If the public record, such as BK or a judgment is associated with an address that is completely different from what Credit Bureaus have on file, I dont think it will even end up in there. I am considering filing BK, and might use my parents address. If BK record has my parents address on it, and none of my credit cards or utilities are under my parents address, I dont think it will ever end up on the report....assuming that SS# is not going to be on the public record, and I believe due to privacy issues and public information, SS# dont show up on judgments and BKs for public viewing

Also, if someone is about to sue you, make sure they have an address that is not going to be reported to the credit reporting agency. Court does not report judgments or BKs to bureaus, so as long as the address on publics records is something other than where you get your credit card statements or utilities, we should be fine

any input here or additions, enhancements, corrections to my reasoning here would also be appreciated.

Re: Re: Re: How to delete BK? never

Can you explain to me (us) how do you dispute old addresses? You say that you never lived there? What i they say that your credit card companies HAVE shown that address previously??? On what does it depend how easy it is to remove old addresses? Do CRAs even try to verify old addresses, or they just assume you telling them the truth?

I am also assuming that your BK info did not show your SS#

Re: Re: Re: Re: How to delete BK? never

With Equifax it is easy. I just disputed online as "not mine." A couple of times they came back up, but I have disputed them completely off using the same online dispute. Experian has addresses for me that are variations of where I once lived. For example, one address is 199 ABC street #19. There is no such address. I did live at 199 ABC street, but not at a #19. Those should be easy to remove. The ones that are associated with my BK may be a bit harder, but I will continue to dispute until they are gone. Once those are gone, I then start disputing the BK filings.

The only address that should be on your reports is your current one.

RIght now, all 3 CRAs report my current address, and also 2 PREVIOUS addresses....
You saying that, they are SUPPOSED to remove the previous addresses? What is the field "previous address" for then?

Do you need to purchase a report in order to dispute something on it. Do you need to purchase it every time you trying to have somehting removed based on "NOT MINE"?

Call the CRA say I never lived there.
Usually that's all it takes and they will remove them.
The only address they or anyone needs is your current one.

Re: Re: Re: How to delete BK? never

Sorry, but this just isn't true. SS# is available for public viewing on a BK. I know from personal experience.

There is an on-line service that I used as a private citizen to look up my own BK and print a copy of all the papers filed, including the SS#.

Also, there is a phone number in my state (Washington) that I can call and enter a SS# and it will give me the discharge date of BK.

Also, there were signs boldly posted in the courthouse stating that you must present a copy of your original SS card so they could verify that you didn't falisfy this info on your paperwork. They also ran the BK through the IRS and verified everything, but they didn't keep my little tax refund which I had declared as an asset (go figure).

Still, I'm going to work it from the address angle. I guess I'd have to update my BK address off of every creditor so it never reports again. How do I do that on a CLOSED account though?? Help?
