Hello, I recently started reading these boards and must admit that I am a little overwhelmed with amount of information provided here. I have recently pulled my credit report from all 3 agencies. The only unexpected blemish on my record is a collection record on Trans Union and Experian reports. Also, I recently applied for a credit card and got denied because of this collection. I'd like to post what it says on both reports so that I don't miss any details. ===================== Trans Union file: >Collection Record< Credit Protection #xxxxxxx OPEN ACCOUNT >Placed for Collection< Updated 03/2003 Balance $214 Individual Account Placed 01/2003 Most Owed $214 Comcast of Montgomery >Past Due: $214< >Status as of 03/2003: Collection Account< Experian file: Cred Protections Assoc 1355 Noel Rd Suite 2100 Dallas, TX 75240 Date opened 1-2003/ Reported since 3-2003 Date of status 3-2003/ Last reported 3-2003 Type/Terms/Monthly payment Installment/NA/$0 Responsibility - Individual Status Details. Status: Collection account. $214 past due as of 3-2003. Account history: Collection as of 3-2003, 3-2003. This account is scheduled to continue on record until 10-2009. ===================== Now, here is the weird thing about this whole situation. My wife and I bought a house in Nov of 2002 and I did not order Comcast High Speed Internet Cable service until a few months back (I think2 months ago). I did not have any Internet access from home from 11-2002 until 6-2003. How could they say I owe them anything? Other then this incorrect collection my credit history is clean. I always pay on time and carry less then 50% balance on my credit cards. I also read that I should delete my old addresses from credit history. How do I do that? Do I call them or mail them a letter? One last thing, I never heard anything from anyone about this collection. No letters, no phone calls, nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want that record off of my credit history. Thank you
Did you have an account with them PRIOR to buying your new house? Perhaps cable television service at your previous residence? If so, did you return the equipment to them when you terminated your service at the old place? If you just began your relationship with THIS cable company in Nov of 2002, and you know for a FACT that you have paid EVERY bill and charge that has been sent to you, then perhaps this is NOT your account? Maybe the cable company got their records mixed up and have your name or SS# (internally) on a delinquent account? If you know for sure that this isn't yours, then the only thing you should have to do is call the cable company and say, "Hey, what's this nonsense?". They should have the service address and date(s) on file. Mabye it's for service you had 2-3-4 years ago. They could have the date(s) wrong and the info reported to the CRA wrong, which makes this an entirely different situation. Either it's not your account (really!), you're completely forgotten about something or you DO know it's yours, but you're not telling us the whole truth ...
I also read that I should delete my old addresses from credit history. How do I do that? Do I call them or mail them a letter? nulak ////////////////// Call them and tell them . THE END ** *** ** LB 59 """"```--~~~~~~~~~--```'""'''
I want to get rid of my old addresses as well...in fact, half of them are incorrect, and I'll call, but I'd like to send a letter as well. Is there a sample anywhere, because I couldn't find one. Thanks
you dont need a sample letter. just simply say 'please delete'. bellybean 123 street bla bla 12345 s.s. #123-45-6789 Dear Sir/Madame: Please delete the following addresses from my credit profile: bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla thank you, bellybean

Hello, I got an update on this situation and would like to hear your advise on what to do next. I'll try to keep this short. Basically, I moved from one apartment to another early last year (02/2002). I canceled my Comcast cable at my old place and ordered new installation at my new apartment (they told me they couldn't't transfer service). I asked CSR if I needed to return old equipment and she told me no. So, a month goes by or so and I get 2 bills from Comcast, one for new apartment and one for old one. Not just $214 for the old apartment but like a regular bill. So, I call them up and they "correct" their mistake for double billing me. The next month I get the same thing and basically I would get same answer from them over and over and no one could give me a definite answer why I was double billed. Then after a few months I finally talked to a competent CSR who told me that I had to return old equipment. I promptly returned it and even got a small refund from them. No one ever told me that they would report me for late payment (if you can call it that) or that it had been turned over to collection agency. I never got any phone calls from collection agency nor have I gotten any letters. As you can see from above post, collection was placed on 01/2003. Don't know why so late. Anyhow, what should I do at this point? I read quite a bit of posts, FAQs and such and from all I gather I should always plan 2 steps ahead. I was thinking that I should first get in touch with Trans Union and Experian and get my old addresses deleted. In all actuality, they are actually inaccurate because they don't report my apartment. Second, (and here is where I get a little confused) I was thinking of sending a validation letter to the collection agency. Or, should I contact Comact and have them correct this mistake? So, here are a few questions: 1. Should I call or send certified letter to CRAs to erase my old addresses? 2. How long should I wait before sending letters to CAs disputing collection as not mine? 3. Should I send letters to CRAs as well disputing that this collection is not mine? 4. Is there anything else I am missing? I read "top 100 mistakes people make, what should I avoid doing?" post and would like to get started off on the right foot. This would be my very first attempt to repair my credit. Thank you very much in advance.

You should with out further delay send the CA the validation letter. 12*Not till you get the green card back from the CA. 14*Reading rereading and studying the following links.------------------------- http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&postid=350770#post350770 http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&postid=314910#post314910 http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&postid=352826#post352826 THE END ** *** ** LB 59 """"```--~~~~~~~~~--```'""'''
