I'm helping my wife to repair her credit. Her credit score is 675 and I'd like to get it over 700. The most damaging item on her credit report is a charge-off for her ex-husband's BMW motorcycle. Her divorce settlement states that she isn't responsible for the debt, but it's still on her report. She was a cosigner on the loan. According to the report, the Date Opened was 5/98, but the Balance date is 8/05. They've been divorced for 6+ years so she hasn't paid anything on it in that long, and I'm fairly certain he hasn't made any payments in years, so I don't know why the Balance date would be 8/05. Is there anything that can be done? Since her divorce papers state that she's not responsible for that debt, can that be used as leverage to get BMW to delete it from her report? They were divorced in CO.
