Can someone tell me how I would go about setting up Outlook or Outlook Express to receive and send mail? It's asking questions that I don't know anything about. Like POP servers, and stuff. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Some things we'll need to know: -Is this for at work or for your private internet service? -Who's your ISP? -Do they allow POP3 access? -If so, you'll need to call or e-mail them and get the address of their POP server and their SMTP server. You'll also need to know what your user name and password are for each of these servers. Probably the same as your ISP log-in, but not necessarily. Again, get this from your ISP Support or your company's IT staff if this is a business e-mail account. Once we know that, it's a pretty straightforward process to set up either Outlook or Outlook Express. Just a thought; if this is for personal e-mail, not business, give strong consideration to using one of the free web-based services. Yahoo, hotmail, go.com, and mail.com all have decent free services and you don't have to set up any software. It's also easy to check your e-mail when you're on the road, since the software does not reside on your computer. Another benefit; if you change ISP's, your e-mail address doesn't change, so you don't have to notify everyone on your list just because you changed ISP's.
Home use Adelphia net Not sure I'll contact them Only reason I'm wanting to use Outlook or Express is because adelphia set up my own e-mail using their @adelphia.net, which is something I can't do with yahoo, or hotmail, right?
I don't understand. If my username with adelphia is mindcrime@adelphia.net, how to I set up something so I can access that account?
Those are completely separate e-mail accounts. For instance. I use Earthlink as my ISP at home. Earthlink has assigned me an e-mail account of myusername@earthlink.net. I Never use it. Not once. I have an account at go.com that I use for all my personal e-mail. I access it through a web browser. I have changed ISP three times in the last two years, but my e-mail address has never changed. Another argument in favor of that is that Adelphia is swirling clockwise in the commode right now. They'll be bought out by someone soon enough and all the people who have adelphia.net e-mail addresses will have to change them and notify everyone on their list, plus every list they've subscribed to. But, back to your original question. My original answers stand. You'll need to get most of that from Adelphia if you're intent on going that route.
