This is not a trick question. I had a providian account back in '97. The account was closed in '98 when I missed a payment that I said over the phone I would make. Anyway, to make a long story short, the account was charged off. I have since paid the amount in full to Providian. Back in January I attempted to open a new account with Providian over the phone. I was told no! Since I previously had an account with them, they are unable to open a new account for me. They do have the account as paid off. I was told that the only way to open an account was if I received an offer in the mail, which I have but have always thrown away. Now, I haven't received one this year. Thanks for any advice, Mike G.
