I've been disputing heavily with EQ and TU. Suddenly, EQ placed a fraud alert on my CR and asked for identifying documents. -- Can they do this without me specifically requesting a fraud alert or reporting fraudulent activity? It's clearly a stall tactic to avoid deleting a negative trade line....

IF you are not careful in how you word your dispute, and in any way imply directly or indirectly fraud, they can (and likely would be liable for damages if they didn't) place a fraud alert on your file and request proof that you are in fact you.

So, you need to make sure that you stay away from anything which could in any way, shape or form be construed as a fraud, or identity theft claim, unless it really is a fraud or identity theft claim.

Including disputing heavily using "NOT MINE" as the weapon of choice, because if you are claiming that there are a lot of accounts on your credit file which you are saying are not yours, then it imputes, more likely than not, identify theft or fraudulent accounts.

Thanks Jam. Definitely well noted, and I did follow the advice in your response, that said, I could have left the gate open on "gray areas" - Question: How would you go about removing the fraud alert? Should I send a letter asking for a removal?
