Here is my issue and I would like some advice.

I have an outstanding debt, not proud of it but it is big. $5909.13 Wamu by way of Providian. They sold it to H and K and they are calling me at work/home..you know the deal. I recently visited their website and sent email to negoiate a settlement(they have a form)...I have heard nothing...Today I recieve a letter in the mail stating the following...

Re: Hudson and Keyse Lic Assignee of Washington Mutual Bank
    Our Account# xxxxxxx
Balance Due: $5909.13, plus 24.9900% per annum from 02/28/2007
    Current Balance: $7555.74

Review of you account indicates that you have failed to respond to the numerous demands for payment of the above referenced debt which remains past due and owning. Accordingly, your account has been transferred to me for the purpose of filing a lawsuit against you. Should you fail to make satisfactory arrangements to satisfy this obilgation within 10 days from the date of this letter, I have been instructed to file a lawsuit seeking recovery of the principal amount due as well as any interest and court cost.

This is your final opportunity to settle this account and aviod legal action to collect this debt. Payments can be made via cc or online check at xxxxxxxx
or call xxxxxxxxxxx or mail xxxxxxxxxxxxx. I trust that this matter will recieve your immediate attention so that litigation will not become necessary.

And it is signed by an attorney for H and K LLC

and the bottom is a notice saying :

This is a communciation from a debt collector and is an attempt to collect a debt. Any infomation obtained will be used for that purpose.

This company is in OHIO and the lawyer is in NY where I reside...
My question is can they tack on interest to the tune of almost $1500 and where do i stand to negoiate with them into making monthly payments for just the balance due and not the interest. Also what does a DV letter buy me in terms of time....
