My old car finance co pull my credit report after they were paid off with the new refinance loan?

    Check this out:
They sent me the original copy of the contract with a red PAID stamp across the front which I received 5/3. The postage stamp indicates it was mailed 4/15. The mailing label has my name, address, and a date of 5/16, all typewritten, and my old account number (handwritten) .

I checked my Experian report and they pulled a soft on 5/16.

Did they have a permissable purpose? Is this an easy $1000?

They must have been paid off on or before 4/15, hence they sent the contract indicating PAID. Installment accounts once PAID are considered CLOSED, and the business relationship has ended. No business relationship=no permissable purpose. Am I grasping for straws?

After some "digging", I'm sure you can catch them in a lie....

By the way, did you do the OPT-OUT thing? If not, maybe they were seeing if you would be a good candidate for another credit offer. Just a long shot theory...

It's going to be a hard call to determine when/how/why they pulled that inquiry....give them a call and get their story....

Nevertheless, what has already transpired (ie. your receipt of the paid contract) is a good baseline for your initial inquiry with this creditor...

    Good Luck...
