    Creditnet:

The original posting in this thread, as well as contextual responses which referenced it, were removed this afternoon. That and others like it posted elsewhere to Creditnet, all posted within two hours of the individual's joining Creditnet, were clearly provocative in both purpose and tone. Moreover, many of them disparaged another Creditnet member specifically. Such postings were apparently crafted to harass members of another consumer-oriented discussion board, many of whom are also valued Creditnet members, without offering anything germane to the consumer topics we discuss. As I've done on several occasions since January 2003 when my tenure began, I will reiterate a few points:

Opposing viewpoints are welcomed. The fact that someone happens to be a bill collector cannot exempt someone from their Creditnet membership. As "Westcap" demonstrated here and elsewhere, bill collectors can be generous sources of helpful information regarding settlement, conditional endorsements, and other topics. And of course there have been others in that line of work who have similarly proven themselves as well-liked and helpful members of our community.

On the other hand, violations of the Creditnet Terms of Service (and perhaps most importantly the harassment provision just referenced) are not tolerated. In that regard, quite a few members have been banned from Creditnet, but only a small handful of those individuals ever claimed to work in the consumer credit field. Of course such demographic proportions probably aren't too far removed from what one might find among the 10,000+ Terms-abiding Creditnet members. Bill collectors are not targeted here on the basis of their employment.
