In the library section of this board it states that you are to wait 90 days between each dispute and only dispute one item at a time. It further states that you should begin disputing as soon as you recieve your credit reports. This is contradictory to everything I have heard on this board. For one arent you supposed to wait for the responses or non- responses to the validation letters before disputing to the CRA? Also, if you dispute only one item every 90 days it can take several years to clear your credit report (if it looks like mine). I am becoming very confused and very frustrated. Also can anyone please tell me how to go about researching state law(New York) regarding credit issues, preferably if there are any free online resources to research these laws.

I think a lot of people would agree to be conservative with your disputes, or CRA's may deem them to be frivolous...I have been successful at disputing 4-5 items at a time (every 30 days) without any problems....I guess it's what you are comfortable doing. Also, it took years to destroy our credit, so now it may take a year or 2 to undue the damage! Be patient and you will persrvere! Keep a log of how many items you have successfully gotten rid of! It helps to look back and say, small accomplishments, yet, I'm moving forward! I started in February, and so far have had a total of 8 items removed from all 3 reports, and on my dh TU, I had 5 out of 8 deleted in one month! It may come fast or slow, but hang in there, and you'll find a lot of support on this board(I call it CREDIT-NON)

Sorry, I don't have any links to New York....however, when you check your CR online, I believe they give you some of your rights in your particular state...

Thanks. I realize that restoring my credit will not happen overnight but I do think even the most conservative of us would agree that to dispute one item every 90 days is a bit drastic unless you have only 2-3 negative items on your report. Nevertheless, I will limit my disputes to 2 every 45 days until I have completed my restoration.

In my dealings with the CRA's, I found that putting more than a couple disputes in one letter did not work. They looked at the first couple and then ignored the rest. So, I kept it to two disputes per letter. But, I sent in a new letter every week or so. Thus I had a lot of disputes going at once and never had a problem with that.

My thinking is that you are not dealing with the brightest people in the world and they are not capable of handling a lot of different things at a time. Just keep it simple. I know that sounds mean, but that is what I think.

If you do two a week with each CRA, you will make good progress. Just stay organized and save everything.

I used big notebooks, one for each CRA and kept up with it.
