Today has gone from bad to just plain poop! First Household lowered my credit limit, then I just opened another letter from an At&T collection service. I thought the issue had been corrected months ago with the OC. Now, I check my credit score and it dropped 47 points in one day! As far as I can see nothing has changed. Oh wait, I disputed directly with Robin Holland yesterday. 2 years of trying to have a decent score and now I am lower than when I started. 620 EQ. Maybe if I start paying late my score will go up!
AT&T is notorious for billing f*ck ups and their tenacity for wanting to collect on them. My grandfather owed them like $2 from before he died last October. They are still sending him bills once every couple weeks!
I had been over this them over 1 1/2 years ago. It was there mistake on an auto payment. They let me know this 3 months after I ended the contract. I had the worst service and hated dealing with them . Anyways, I am searching to find what collection agencies are legal to collect in my state. This letter has been sent from another state. It has not yet been reported on my credit report so I am confused as to what to do. Wait, ask for validation, call At&T and swear at them like I'd like too, or research more about this collection company. It's such a small amount , I can't imagine the debt being sold. Back to the archives! And yes, they are f*****! Never late ever!
Be sure to get that validation letter off. BTW-Who is the CA? Maybe someone here or myself knows something on them. You said it was a small amount, how much was it for?
Thanks for answering! The company is "Bureau of Collection Recovery in MN. The bill was 32 dollars, one month of cell time they didn't bill. They had access, I told them to take it and gave authorization, now this!
I guess I have focused more on OC issues ,so now am floundering with CA regs. Should I still send validation before it's put on my CR?
Most definatly send validation before it lands on your credit reports! I have never heard of this CA, its probably a small regional job. Read the FDCPA, better yet memorize it. Try to get as many violations as you can on them in the next month or so. I seriously doubt they will be able to validate. If it were me, I'd have that CA headed into court room so fast the clerk would get pneumonia from the suction of their attorney going past.
Thanks again, but I am wondering if they are legal to collect in my state. What could I care about 32 dollars? But, it is the fact that the OC had access and screwed up. I never disputed any payments, very confusing. I will do validation, but think they are small also, . I looked into several links but can;t find if they're legal in my state. To think that they would do this for so little is too much. Here, have some bucks, doesn't change my life!!! But to get sent papers by a collection agency is insulting,go smoke some more crack. Just a saying, don't anyone take it literally!
I'd be fuming too, but remember the bottom line is it would cost the CA 3 times what you owe them just to type an answer to a lawsuit. One other thing, try the pay for deletion route first. For $32 I'd give them that just to get them to go away.
