i just got married and we combined don't have any credit. my husband is in school and can't work right now. bills are almost due and we can't get a loan because we don't have any credit. we were told that in most cases it's better to have bad credit than none at all. that doesn't make any sense to me. i hope someone can give me some quick advice on anything, whether by suggesting a credit card or loan. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

    do you have credit scores?

do you have a cellphone? if yes, maybe you do have credit, otherwise how would the cellphone have gotten approved?

Do you have a bank account?? where?? for how long?

If you are a student just apply for one of these cards. And/Or have a relative with good credit add you as an authorized user of one of two of his(her) credit cards. Or apply for a secured card like B. of America, Orchard or whatever.

Anyway if you or your husband are not working right now is much better do not apply for credit cards until you get a real job to pay the credit cards bills.

    i agree...

have your husband apply for a student card (they tend to approve students with NO credit but not those with BAD credit).

as for you, you may want to apply for a small bank loan with the bank where you have your savings account... and then pay it back RIGHT AWAY... this is the best advice for someone starting out because you will start out with a positive credit line.

remember, since you are starting out, keep your balances LOW and your amount of credit lines less than 3. don't max out any cards and try not to rely on loans as a NECESSARY source of income (this is how you will rack up debt).

since you have no other credit to balance out your score, keep your initial ones positive (amount of debt is a major factor when calculating your score and since you are new, this will probably be the main factor weighing on your score).

building credit takes time... start off right!! :)

by the way, the bank where you have your savings accounts will usually be more willing to work with you when it comes to getting a small loan even though you have no credit....
