I just pulled my equifax report and I just don't understand!! My score is now down to 566. Two weeks ago it was at 592. The only thing that has changed is that a Charge off has been deleted. That is the ONLY change. Why would that bring my score dow almost 30 points??? I have several accounts on the report listed in the open section that are showing 0 balances. Should I dispute them as closed, paid in full? They are all pays as agreed accounts. If I dispute these though. I don't want the OC to not respond and then have the account deleted.

Did the chargeoff happen to be your oldest tradeline?

if they are positive accounts, let them report as open, as long as they are showing as open, they're helping you, since the positive trade line could stay on there forever... :)

a negative account isn't always negative scorewise if the negative account was the oldest account you had, the length of your credit history is being boosted by that negative account, yes i know it seems contradictory to want to keep a negative account for any reason, but who says that the scores need to make sense, they don't...

No it wasn't my oldest tradeline. It was from 2001. My oldest tradeline is from 1995.

I just checked my husbands equifax and his score is up to 624 from 585 just 2 weeks ago. We had the same neg. tradeline delted. The only neg. thing on his report now is a 30 day and a 60 day late from 2 years ago when he was layed off. The loan was paid off in full and closed a year ago. I have way more accounts on my report. 90% of them are paid as agreed with no balance. He even has way more inquiries. This doesn't make any sense!!

What is your top negative factor, and did you do a dispute?

I just did a dispute on Experian, and an old thirty day late came off - result? My Experian Fako went up 8 points from 720 to 728, but my true FICO score dropped 71 points (went from 711 to 640)!!

The reason was, as near as I can tell, that the two other items (30-day late, and a pd collection, my only remaining negs.) went from being 4-5 years old to "unknown" while in dispute - my new "Top Neg Factors" are now "Derogatory item" and "late payments too recent or unknown", "number of inqs" and "average history is short" when before, "inquiries" was first, the "Derog item" was second and nothing else.

A similar thing happened to my Equifax a few months ago - immediately after disputing, they took a dump, for the same reason - then a few days later it was back to almost normal - then a couple weeks after that, when the negs dropped off completely, it went decently positive (WRT original)

I'm kinda pi$$ed too on this Experian deal, but in 2 weeks it had BETTER be back to the original or, actually, better...
