I got 2 neg's deleted, now ?

I disputed with TransUnion and got my JC Penney paid charge-off and a duplicate Discover acct deleted. But I noticed when they sent me the updated copy of my credit report that I have several soft inquiries from Commerce Bankcard.

    The info reads like this:

    Commerce Bank

    Updated 4/2003

    Opened 06/1997

    Paid off 10/1997

Status as of 1997: Paid or Paying as agreed in prior 15 months from date paid never late

    Balance $0

Most owed $393 (I'm not sure that's correct, but it's probably a moot point)

    Credit Limit $1000

It seems that they are still listing this acct as open when I am sure I closed it when I switched banks in 1997-98. I was told by one of the posters on this board to leave it open since it gave me a "history". I had no problem with that. But in looking over my inquiries, I see that they have pulled 7 softs since 2001!

    05/2001
    08/2001
    11/2001
    05/2002
    08/2002
    10/2002
    01/2003

I have received no new cards or other mailings from them to suggest I even still have an acct with them. What should I do?

Also, I see that Elan Financial Services (a collection agency) has pulled 2 softs.

    10/2001
    02/2002

I believe Best Buy turned over my acct to them, but looking at my Best Buy acct it says "Settled for less than full balance" (which isn't true, I paid it all). That was in 09/1999. So Elan has no reason to pull an inquiry, does it?

    Thanks for your help!

Unfortunatly a soft inquiry does not require the company to have a permissible purpose. Now if it was a hard, and you no longer had an open account with them you could do something.

    Congrats on the deletions!

That's just wrong Chris! If the account is closed, and they pulled a soft, such as an AR, they have no PP. I have a copy of the check from Home Depot to prove it.

Now, if they are pulling PRM's which are soft as well, that's a different story - becaaaaause they don't see your full credit report as they would see in an AR.

Camra, my HD account showed open on my credit reports, but I knew it was closed. One small phone call verified it was closed. (I did not tell them why I wanted to know).

If you think you closed it, call and verify, if they still have it open, then they can pull softs. At this point, if you want to close it, send it in writing.

    1*It most certainly DOES.
2*The poster has no account with them therefore it is a NPP either hard or soft.

What purpose would a CA have for pulling PRM's ?
What product would Elan Financial Services (a collection agency)
    have to promote to camracrazy?

    1. He also mentions an OC pulling - Commerce Bankcard.

    2. Making a point to differentiate between AR's and PRM's, which I think Chris might be confused about.

Ok, I called Commerce Bankcard to check the status of my acct. They said it was still open and they could send me a new card if I wanted one, or I could close the acct. What do ya'll think? My current train of thought is that it is an acct that has never shown late since 1997, so it might be a good point to start reestablishing some good credit. The other CC's I have on my report all show some lates, but luckily they are all paid off now.

As for Elan, someone asked what services they might have to offer me that would give them permissible purpose. Maybe they just liked me so much, they are trying to offer me another collection! :)
