I am so happy right now Just found out I was approved for a Macy's card... I've never even been inside one of their stores! Oh well..Finally got approved for something on my own- didn't have to add hubby to the application. They pulled EXP and my score is at 663 there. The problem is EXP recently "lost" all of my tradelines except for 1, leaving me with virtually no credit history. My limit is only $100 but you've got to start somewhere! Maybe I'll buy some socks or something. Does anyone know if they have a store in Chicagoland or are they only in NY?
Thanks! I just ordered some perfume for myself...Do they accept online payments I wonder...I want to pay it off! Can you tell I'm paranoid about credit card debt, lol...
I've never shopped online, but here in NJ & PA there's one in every mall. They have nice clothes and some of the most amazing sales. I've gotten pricey clothes for well under $10 with their 1 day sales, which seem to be every week. Alot of people won't go in Macy's because they're too expensive, but when they have their sales it's cheaper then second hand shops.
I HAD a Macy's card but cut it up when I declared bk in late Aug 2002. I didn't owe them anything so Macy's was not included in my bk 7. I did receive a letter from Sears (owed nothing/not included in bk) saying that because Sears saw my notice of bk filing in the newspaper, Sears was closing my acct. - just like that. Both my Macy's and Strawbridge's accounts are reported in good standing, paying as agreed. I am an idiot for cutting both cards up. Should have taken a chance and used both of them for small items just to see if they had been "closed by creditor", though neither of them are reported that way on my recent credit reports. Now I'm afraid to call them to report a "lost card" or apply for a replacement card online for fear they will pull my credit report and see the bk. Arrggh! I agree with the poster who said both stores are price-y but they always have sales. I specifically shopped their sale items. Macy's "sale" prices are comparable to Kmart/Walmart regular prices but their merchandise is a lot classier.
You can charge to your Macy's account in the store with just your license. I'd make sure to keep those old tradelines.
Sears closed an account because they saw the BK filing in the newspaper?? HUH? I can picture Sears employees scanning the newspapers of the country searching for card holders who have recently filed BK and then rushing off to close the accounts. LOL....
You should be able to buy from Macys online and pay using your card. It makes sense to me for stores to issue low limit cards like this. It helps your credit and they get a new customer with only a little risk.
hardybj - good idea, I'll try that on something small- I'll use the "I left my card at home excuse" in theory, Macy's is supposed to give a "courtesy card" - never have done that, but I've seen other people do that. Make sure I have my backup bank debit card or cash though. jdog0411 - Yep, Sears scans our local newpapers like a hawk - unfortunately bk's are newsworthy in Delaware bigmon - unfortunately I cut up the card so am clueless as to the acct number. In my credit reports the acct #'s are either scrambled or incomplete (for my protection!!!). I never thought to write the numbers down before I gave the cards the ax - LOL. I was just pissed off and cut them all up. Basically what happened is my ex refused to split in any way the "marital debt" - in DE, at least, all debt acquired during the marriage is considered "marital debt" regardless of whose name is on the account. He remarried soon after our divorce, filed bk separately one week after I did. Thanks for the ideas and replies everyone.
That is too funny. How does Sears put the name to the account if they are just using the newspaper? I'm sure the BK listing won't print SSN's and other identiying information other than name, case number, etc. How would Sears know that it was you?
Sears just matched my exact name with my account number. Unfortunately, my married name is "uncommon". My family by my married name, consists of me, our two kids, my ex husband and ex FIL. We are the only <family name> listings in DE. Now if by chance, Sears had a PACER account, they would also have my ssn and could match my original application that way. The letter I received indicated that Sears had read my bk listing in the newspaper and so they were closing my account. Too bad, I had a $4K cl, too. It's their loss ... I always paid MY bills. My ex's accounts (six personal CC's, 7 business CC's) had all been charged off. His credit reports must be terrible. All of his bk stuff is coming to our house (awarded to me in the divorce - he has lived in MD for over two years but filed in DE- has not filed a change of address) and he's only received offers for car financing programs (same as me) - no secured or unsecured credit card offers for him. I've just received my fourth offer today.
Well, I guess that we should all know that before we BK, we should say we are going back to our maden names so as not to have this problem. Don't you still get statements? If you don't it must be closed. The statements should all have your acct# on them.
Lucky- Sears, Macy's and Strawbridges, at least in DE, only send statements when you have an outstanding balance, and then a followup statement when you have paid in full. $0 balance - no statements unfortunately. Good idea, though - perhaps I can find an old Macy's or Strawbridges statement. I just checked my bank records. Problem is I haven't used the cards since 1/2002 (Straws) and Macy's 12/01. I'll look though and see if I still have statements. Sears is definitely closed.
