I have been approved for $19K car (+taxes tag) with $1000 down (99 model) at 10.24% APR for $440/month.

Alternatively they think i can qualify through chase for a brand new 2001 at $579/month (?? apr).

These guys are hunting me down to sell me one. Any comments or suggestions? My car is blowing smoke everywhere right now.

Its an audi A4 Quattro 1.8T Sedan, btw.

I think those are great cars Sam-very reliable-my BF has one and loves it. Keep in mind though that the new model just had a body/interior change, although they hold their value pretty well.

There is a website you might wanna check out-www.audiworld.com-whole bulletin board on A4. Good luck.

    Hi Sam!!!

Sam, get the Audi. You have mentioned it, you want it, you are willing to pay for it. Go get it.
Get the new one - and you'll be FINE! I really like the navy blue with red leather in that 1.8T!
Of course, that same excellent motor is in the Turbo
Bug, the Passat and the Audi TT.

Particularly in this world now, go get it if you want it!

I agree with Dog. If the A4 is what you want and you can get a decent deal go for it. 7.99% seems very reasonable. I think you gotta get the big engine to be able to get leather seats though :(

Just make sure to be informed for the price!

yah price is harsh, 5% over invoice. however the santorin(sp?) blue pearl effect is so beautiful. Vw's look cheap, i could pay the same price for the passat and get much poorer service.

will keep you updated. i'm surprised they'd finance me.

What is your score these days Sam?

I went to look at the new A4 this weeknd-they only had 1 available, but I agree-that blue color is awesome.

The thing about this car is that the service is good, and these cars last for years. So I think that the value its provide may be worth the extra cost, because you won't have to be at the mechanics every time you turn around, incurring those costs along w/your payment.

Yeah. My equifax is down to 642 right now. I don't know how they are pulling that financing off. Maybe they are more flexible in scoring due to the "lack of" sales.

Warranty is a good thing, audi warranties smoke the competition. Everything except for tires including all maintenance (with loaner car) for 4/50K. Thats hard to beat without going into a higher $$ class of automobile.

    Sam-

I was looking at A4's for a while myself.

What region are you in? Most dealers seem to be letting 2001's go for between $300 and $500 over invoice. The re-designed 2002's are starting to show up and that is really helping with the price. 5% seems really high, especially this late in the year. carsdirect.com might even be cheaper than that for you. Are you trading anything in?

If you are a performance guy, check out www.tap1.com . they have a lot of good stuff.

The 1.8T is really over-engineered and has no problems with the extra power.

One thing to check out is the service areas of their garage. Some audi dealerships are not as flexible w/hours or loaner cars on this one. There is a huge difference between dealerships in the metro area that I live in as far as terms of service go.

If the terms are less than stellar (i.e. no weekend hours, no loaner car guarantee, etc) it may be a good bargaining point-just a thought.

I am really happy (and envious!) of you-let us know when you finalize the deal.

It's really funny to look at the huge differences Audi dealers charge in different areas. Go to www.carsdirect.com and price up the same A4 but in different zip codes....watch how much the prices fluctuate!!!

A lot of people are wanting the new 2002 body style now (I like the 2001 better) and/or waiting 'til spring for the A4 convertible (@5K over sticker pre-order!!!!)

    2002 Ford T - BIRD....

The showroom has a new red T-Bird sitting in the window - haven't looked at it closely - we know its also a JaG/LS motor and dashboard - but it looks great. OF COURSE that first one in SF will be thousands over sticker!

No Sam, I am not comparing to AUDI performance at all! Just that the new T-Bird will be very expensive - like the PT Cruisers!

I also saw an add in our paper for a 1966 Mustang
Fastback, maroon, pony interior, as new, 4600 original miles!
Unfortunately, the owner knows what he has - he wants $32K. Can't say its not worth it!

Oh the good old days! When the Mustang Coupe first rolled out in 1964, the price was $2368!

    c ya - sorry - love cars as a hobby :) dogman

    4600 original miles!

Would it have a "rotten" engine?

To keep a car "going" don't you have to drive more than 130 +/- per year? (like 1000)...

Hi George - yes I wonder what they do as well - and I know that you need to put them up on blocks.

AND, with 4600 original miles, you are driving parts 40 yrs old - but in perfect unused condition. I don't knopw enough about restorations - but it is interesting ....

AS YOU KNOW GEORGE, California is ideal for cars.
NO RUST ever! My neighbor has a 1966 Toronado -
she is an elderly lady. I told her I would give her $1000 CASH for her Toro.

She is about 80, turned to me and said, "Dogman,
I may be older than you, but do you think I'm crazy?"

It is a nice car - LARGE - particularly in narrow streeted SF!

later - pawing away - Dogman
