There are a few TLs on hubby's report that I'm not sure how they should read. Charge off, bad debt, profit and loss write off, chapter 7 - do these all have the same impact on score?

    He has:
Household Bk - says bk chapter 7 then charge off as bad debt 5/98 (our bk was 7/98 so does this mean they charged it off before bk?) bought by CCB Credit Services and included in bk

Credit Union - bk dismissed, charged off as bad debt 1/98 but still has a $3659 balance (again charged off before bk?) This was a voluntary repossion and they resold the car.

Cross Country - 11/97 charged off as bad debt, profit and loss write off, still shows $558 balance past due - bought by Accelerated Collection and was in bk

Orchard Bank - purchased by another lender (Household has the same account number for some strange reason, does Household buy debt too?), charged off as bad debt 4/99

Can I do anything about these? I have disputed them already and this is how the current TLs read. They don't seem right to me at all but I'm not familiar with all the different terms and their score impact. Stuff that was in the bk should just say "chapter 7" and have a zero balance, right? Thanks for any insight.

Don't send the CRA a copy of your bk paperwork to prove how they should read! I did that. Bad bad mistake. Once you do it, you have lost a lot of ground toward getting the bk deleted.

I won't! :) Just trying to make sense of this stuff and boost his score if I can. Thanks

I had that same problem (it is what prompted me to send them a copy of the bk filing!). As I recall, getting the status changed from "Charge off" to "Inc in bk" helped my score a little, but not enough to really matter much. Your goal needs to be deletion of those accounts not "correct" reporting. :) You may actually have a better chance getting them deleted because they are reporting wrong. If they were inc in a bk, the CRA should have a tough time verifying their wrong info. In a perfect world anyway!

Well, the top 3 were in the bk and you see the results of the dispute from 4/03 above. Apparently the CRs CAN verify incorrect info! LOL What a joke! It's such a catch-22 - send them the documentation and you're nailed for 10 years...don't send it and your report will never be right!

On a positive note, congratulations on getting your scores so high!

Thanks for the pat on the back. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to throw in the towel forever on this! It is sooooo frustrating. I have to keep records where I can see progress. Otherwise, I get overwhelmed. We are going to see some big jumps in the scores with the deletion of the last negative on 2 CRA's for DH and 1 for me. Putting the last neg in dispute on EQ for him gives him a 780 EQ score!

That's great! We only started from 604 (now I'm 672) and 588 (still working on Dh's obviously). I can't imagine not having something to look at to see progress when going through 6 reports at a time - especially you guys from the 400s - great job!

PHantom, I, seriously have a code for deletions entitled "deleted AFTER I almost gave up forever." To date, we have had 28 deletions with that code! Just goes to show that there is always good news in this, you just have to make sure that you can see it for yourself when you need a pat on the back. CHOD was very good to us. Last week I thought "it has been a dry run for the last 4 disputes." I looked at my chart, and surprisingly we had gotten 5 deletions since CHOD. You just have to keep plugging at it. WHen you get down to 1-2 per report, they get tougher and tougher it seems.

Good luck! Keep us posted on your jourey!

Hey Lisa I'm curious, I recall you saying you had some of your bk's deleted, by any chance were you able to get them deleted by whomever you sent the bk paperwork too?? I too did the same thing - to TU, I did this in Dec. The bk is the last neg on dh's TU and I am so antsy to try and dispute it but since I sent them everything not so long ago, I'm a little leary to attempt it. How did this work for you?

Kelcol, I had to stop and think about that for a second. Yes, we did have it deleted even though we sent them a copy (tsk tsk!). We have it off of 4 of 6. Still reporting on me on TU and him on EXP. We sent a complete copy to all 3 CRA's in 9/01. I hear that they will bring every piece of paper to court with them, but I find it hard to believe that they can store the massive amounts of correspondence they must receive each year. Who knows? Like I said before, I think it is a crapshot. For example, I disputed TU for both of us on the same day online. It was reported exactly the same for both--identical in every way. I disputed it as "Other" and then said "I never filed a CH13 w/ 0 assets and liab." It was deleted from his on the first try. It is still reporting on my TU almost a year later, and I have tried everything I can think of to get it deleted.

hmmm well here goes! I'm off to try and dispute it. I did try disputing it w/ Eq and Exp - both were verified. As of right now Eq is the only one reporting it right. Exp has both liabilities and assets listed as n/a and TU of course w/ 0 liabilities and assets...crossing fingers! Thanks for sharing your story w/ me!!

Hey Kelcol, they usually screw up whether it was an "individual" filing or a "joint" filing. Look at that too. TU didn't have the plaintiff right on either of our listing (they listed our attorney). Then there is the 0 assets/liabs idea. Oh, and the correct court is NOT "a Federal Court." TU had that on DH's. It is a specific court.

Thanks for the pointers...I'm still trying to work up the courage to attempt this. I apparently helped TU when I sent them the paperwork, because until then they never listed a discharge date. TU doesn't state whether it's individual or joint, like yours only says "federal court" , Eq looks completely correct and Exp has some of it correct....ughhh I'm such a chicken!! How long after you sent the discharge papers did you dispute it?

The first time was probably 9 months after I sent them the paperwork. The FCRA says it has to be 100% correct. If not, delete it. Well, this stuff is NOT 100% correct. You aren't disputing it as "not mine" are you? You are just disputing their reporting. Don't be a chicken. The law is on your side, Kelcol.

Thanks LISAMC!!!! I disputed dh's bk on TU last week - checked pg and double checked w/ TU itself and POOF!! It's gone!! Thanks I wouldn't have thought it was possible (especially after sending them the paperwork a few months ago!!) Thanks again!!

Hey was that quick or what? Rarely does it work in our favor when TU doesn't do their job. Congrats!
