I am having a major nightmare with a medical bill from 1/2001. I was involved in a car accident in 2001. It was covered under my no-fault insurance. I went to the emergency room and the hospital billed my insurance (the information was given when I went to the ER). The attending Dr apparently never submitted a bill for services for $170.00. I never heard anything about it until 11/03 when I saw a collections account on my credit report. I have disputed the account and even called the collection agency, Mercantile Adjustment Bureau. They have reported the account as "verified" but later sent me a letter asking for more information. I have since contacted Geico and they have agreed to pay the bill, even though it has passed the statute of limitations for them to pay it. They, as well as myself, have requested several times for the bill to be forwarded to them so Geico has an invoice to pay them from. They have not been able to produce any documentation about this bill. So Geico has not been able to pay it. Yet it still continues to be placed on my credit report every month. We've been told that the original bill has been archived to Ft. Lauderdale, FL but that's it. The lady from Geico and I have spent hours calling every number we've been given, and still no bill or invoice, and this is on my credit report every month. Can you help? I feel like now I am at the point where I am going to have to take legal action. I have documented every call, taken down every number that I've been given, and still this is on my report. Geico is WILLING to pay this but no one can produce a bill. Geico is wondering how they can place something on my credit report that no one can produce a bill for, and so am I. I sent out a validation letter in November which was ignored. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.
Hi Genmorr, Every law in the book has been broken here. Rarely do people document everything as meticulously as you have, but when they do, they have the makings of a fabulous lawsuit. I suggest you go find an atty. who specializes in this area and sit down with him for an hour. In the meantime don't even talk to these people. Let me know what you think about this idea. .
Thanks for replying. I really think we have reached the point where lega action needs to be taken, too. I am going to be contacting an attorney - I didnt know if this was something I should be handling myself. Thanks for your help!
