I have an account with MBNA in which I owe 3100.00. My credit limit is only 500. I got this card when I started college and had no concept of credit. I have been paying and not paying forever on this thing. Because it is so far over the credit limit it looks horrible on my credit report even though I have paid on time for 1 1/2 years. I can't get another card to transfer balance to because of this account. They won't give me a CL increase to cover the difference. I don't have the money to pay this off.

I don't know what to do. This account is current right now so I don't know how to proceed with fixing this problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Something similiar happened to me with MBNA. I called and asked them to help me figure out how I was going to pay this off in a reasonable amount of time. They offered to stop charging me the over the credit limit fees and to reduce the interest rate. Maybe I was just lucky. Maybe it was because I was truely sincere in my questions. I was careful not to sound snotty or to get on the bad side of the person. Oh yea, they also took off a bunch of over the credit limit fees from previous months and credited my account. Good luck and hang in there. It will get better. If the 1st person you talk to doesn't help you, don't argue. Wait until you cool down and call again on another day. If you get the same person, hang up. Eventually you'll get somebody who will budge. Maybe calling early in the day before the reps have a chance to get cranky might help.

They did reduce the interest for 1 year to 0% and aren't charging the over limit fees. It is just that balance/limit ratio that is killing me. From other posts I read they say to just pay them off and dispute bad later. May have to do that.
