Yesterday I posted about a new collection account that just appeared on all three credit reports. I didn't get any responses, so I will try again. A new collection with Asset Acceptance just reported as of 7/02. It shows on one of my reports that the last date of activity was 1996. Why is this showing up now after all these years. It has never been on a report before. It says its for a charged off Lerner account. That account is so old that it isn't even reporting any longer. What should I do? Do I go ahead and dispute, or do i send a validation letter? Please help, I want to remove this and not screw it up! Thanks
I have a similar situation going on right now. Yesterday I sent a validation letter to the CA who is now reporting asking for a copy of the signed contract, the debt is so stale that I'm sure they don't have it. Today I'm sending a simple "not mine, please delete" dispute to the CRA. If it get's deleted then all is good. If not, I will re-dispute with CRA saying that SOL for reporting is long past and they better delete. At the same time I will send a letter to CA outlining my lawsuit against them for re-aging. One reason I am not initially sending an intent to sue type of letter is that I can't find the "real" name of the agency. I am hoping they will reply in some way, and on letterhead. I don't know if this is the "right" way to proceed but that's what I'm doing. Hope this helps.
I think LKH had some dealings with Asset acceptance. Try searching Asset Acceptance and look for LKH posts. You might find some valuable info there.
