Here's the situation: Old NextCard account not transferred to Merrick, balance of $3000 @ 24% interest (it got raised when NCard went bye-bye). I have 2 open CC, one for $500 (0 balance), one for $1000 (balance $450). credit scores in the low 600-625 range. Do I have any options to do something with this $3000? I know no one is going to open a $3000 credit line for me to transfer it to, so what else can I do, besides pay this enormous interest? I tried getting them to lower it, but all they did was send me a copy of the Card terms and agreement, bastards.
Have you tried sending a request to a Credit Manager at Merrick to reduce the interest? (Somebody here has a great signature - "Never accept No from someone who doesn't have the authority to say Yes") You were probably dealing with the bottom of the food chain when you made your request before. Also, are you sure the account is Closed? If that doesn't work, could you get a short term loan from a bank to pay it off? And of course, there's always PlanetFeedback.com and ComplaintStation.com.
the problem is this account wasn't transferred to Merrick, it is still showing as owned by NextCard, and the account is definitely closed.
Who's getting the payments you send in? Whom do you contact for customer service, etc.? I'd try to escalate the matter, if possible. Is this showing up on your reports?
Payments are made out to NextCard and inquiries go to NextCar Customer Service...the phone number is all automated, with no way to get to a human. I have sent them a letter about this though.

Didn't know rate could be increased on a closed account. **************** I've never had it happen before...and I've never seen anything saying it was illegal...but I should look into it, just in case.
