    HEEEELLLLLP!

I used to be a very active member on this board back in the day and cleaned up all my credit and collections in 2003. I effectively cleaned up my credit and now I received a collections notice dated November 7, 2007 from NCO financial for a Sirius Satellite Account for $26 bucks!

Ack! I can't believe this crap is going to potentially ruin all of my hard work.

I just talked to the idiots at Sirius and asked them as to why I NEVER received a past due notification stating they were sending me to collections and WHY they kept trying to get me to renew my service after the alleged write off. I'm so angry. If I knew I owed the $26 bucks, I would have GLADLY paid it. But, now, I'm angry because what I have been working 8 years to acheive could be marred by a stupid collections for $26 bucks.

What is my first step? To write a validation letter to NCO? Do a PFD letter? What is the board's general success/failure rate with NCO and PFD's?

Please offer any and all assistance. It will be GREATLY appreciated!

I don't think NCO reports such small balances. Do you know why there is a bill? Have you sent a dispute letter? Often times with such small balances they wont respond to a dispute letter.

Well, I just got the letter today, it's dated Nov. 7. I thought about doing the dispute and then seeing what comes out of it. Any experience with these small balances and NCO reporting to the CRAs? I would gladly pay tomorrow if they don't report, but I'm freaked that they will. So, I will do all in my power to prevent that from happening.

Apparently, with Sirius, they don't listen to you when you try to cancel. Instead they just keep on charging and while trying to get you to come back. I am a Stay at home mom now, and no longer commute, so I didn't need the service. It's a total scam that they run. They keep your service on for several weeks, while harassing you to come back. They tell you about all you are "missing" and then finally disconnect the service, month later! Well, then apparently, they charge a late payment fee. It's so ridiculous I can't stand it.

You can either send a PFD to them, or dispute the account. It's your choice, there are some old posts here about pfd's and NCO, you may have to go back several months to find them, or use the search button and look for NCO.

Thanks. I'll figure out what to do. I'll be damned if I go down without a fight on this one.

One question. I haven't checked my CR's yet. Does NCO usually report right when they send the letter or only 30 days after they send it?

Check your report first. It may not even be on there yet. NCO is sort of hinky about these things...

Typically they report 30 days after receiving the account. But they may have changed, and simple mistakes happen, such as they send the wrong batch to the credit reports.

You can also do a 1-2 punch by questioning the account with the CRA's
(provided the tradeline shows). Wait for about 5 days, to make sure the CRA
have received and are asking the CA for verification. You then send a letter to the CA asking for validation. While they haven't validated they can't
verify to the CRA. If they don't answer the CRA within 30 days the tradeline will be deleted.

I also recieved one of these NCO/Sirius Letters for 15 bucks Even though I cancelled the service when my 1 year subscription was over. Sirius Kept calling to renew Since my credit is excellent and this is only collection letter I have ever received I plan on fightng this. I feel this is a form of Slamming. I tried doing a search of NCO PDF But it didn't come up with anything. Since I'm a Newbie whats a PDF? Any other input on this would be great

Hi all! I just wanted to follow up with everyone on this matter. I did a very stern validation letter to NCO in late November. A few days ago, I received the following letter:

    Dear XXXX XXXXX

Thank you for your inquiry regarind the above-referenced account. Please be advised that the above-referenced account is closed in our office. Further inquiry regarding the underlying debt may be directed to Sirius Satellite Radio., 5 Penn Plaza 11th floor, New York, NY 10001.

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your inquiry.

    Very truly yours,

    NCO....

Anyhoo, isn't this letter a riot! hahahaha. I spent a good 1/2 hour laughing at them...Both Sirius AND NCO. Sirius is trying to collect a bunch of bogus debts...NCO being the slime that they are are helping them, but when the rubber hits the road, people start "denying things" and "closing accounts". LOL.

Anyhoo, this isn't on my CR's as of now, and if it pops up, well, I have a TRAIL of documentation now.

Thanks for all the help credit-netters!!!!
