    Hi All,

I called a credit card company (Key Bank) and asked them if I could re-open a closed credit card account. THe CSR told me that they would pull my credit in order to make a decision. I told her "in that case I wouldn't like to submit the request beacise I din't want the inquiry"

Well, I go the alert from Truecredit that I had a new inquiry from Key Bank.

How should I dispute this? Do I call Key Bank first, or do I dispute with the CRA. Also, do I need to purchase a report (I used my free ones) to dispute an item? The pull was from EQ.

Did you record this phone call?
Did you ever get the card?

No, I thought they would just tell me yes or no. The first time a hard pull was brought up, I said I didn't ant it.

If the request was submitted, I don't know if I was approved yet.

IF you don't receive the card OR a letter from them that they turned down your application because of what is on your CR, you will have a major issue of an unauthorized hard pull. Other posters here with a better knowledge of legal terms might chime in on how to proceed with a possible dispute.

I told them outright that i did not want them to pull my credit, so it's an unauthorized pull regardless of my approval status.

I just don't know where to start with getting it removed.

    How to fight back.

If you can prove you said you didn't want a credit pull and they pulled it anyway then you would have a cause of action in federal court. If they failed to send you the letter of rejection within the 14 days allowed by law then you would also have a cause of action in federal court. That's about the best way to win these arguments.
