I disputed 2 co accounts with the credit card company. One of them responded that the account has a zero balance and has been sold to a CA which is not on my credit report. The other one said that the time frame to dispute has passed (2 years ago) and since I made payments and/or purchases on the account the debt is considered ratified. Is there anything I can do? BTW, I've disputed with the CRAs, but haven't gotten a response.
The time-period they are referring to is under the FCBA, however there is no time-period for disputing under the FCRA. Under the FCBA, you have around 60 days from the statement date to dispute any charges on that account.
Do I send another letter citing FCRA and demand validation? For the other CC, how do I get there tradeline removed when they have sold the debt to a CA that is not reporting? Thanks for the help.
Well, getting it deleted completely could be a challenge, but they should be reporting it with a zero balance, since now they have been paid by the company who purchased the account. It all depends on the company, and how well they keep their records, and whether the records are still in 'the system', or if they are archived somewhere, where they may have to actually leave their desk to try to find the records (and do they want to do that? )
