I think my Equifax file is split

How do you find out if your Equifax file is split?

I applied for instant credit at Home Depot, and I was denied. I was told I would receive an explanation in the mail, but I never did.

I believe they pulled my Equifax report, but when I call to get my credit report, I get a message saying that I can't be identified using the information I supplied, even though I use the exact identifying information listed on my Equifax credit report.

I KNOW they have two files on me - one with my correct information, and one they created to place items that were disputed and deleted from my correct report. I know this because I had them correct how they spell my last name, and they sent me two separate reports - one accurate report, and one with information deleted from the accurate one. I think they sent it by mistake.

Since then, I haven't been able to get a report from them at all, not even on-line. They keep saying they can't verify my identity.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I want to take care of this problem, but I don't know where to start.

Call and talk to a live person. This is what I had to do to find out mine was split. I tried to sign on for credit watch but couldn't . I called the tech line and thats when the guy told me my file had been split into two.

That started a 3 month journey to get my file merged. But I do have one file now so do not let the Csr's tell you it cant or suggest you wait till 2004 when some stuff would fall off like they did me.

find out if you file is split first and if it is see if the csr's can fix it. if they can't email Robin Holland and she will get it done. She got mine merged in about 2 days
