Re: I was robbed at the ATM, he

oddly enough my ATM car sits in my pocket for the last 3 weeks, cause i'm too lazy to drive up to the credit union. Upon re-issuance of a fraudulent transaction (some local dude got my CC # and used it for phone sex, deeming a store I used my CC at, which is rare, was snagged).

Anyways. The only way to get/set the new PIN # is to go in the branch in person, which i haven't had time to.

NO PIN BY MAIL. NO OLD PIN.

So if that bank followed my credit unions strict fraud policy, i spose this wouldn't have happened.

Strange that they would not increase security when theft was involved.

In my case it was $7.29 which was promptly credited back since it was a VISA charge.

I think your bank stinks at security policy, since they can't do something this simple.

I would request the police subpeona the ATM records that would prove you innocent (cashier,ATM camera records).

Almost every modern ATM has a camera to snap a photo of the PERP anyways.

    George,

Please refer to arobinsons previous thread about how he sued Walmart because they wouldn't let him use his card without producung ID. You should remember it, it seemed to hit a note with you. Then you will understand my reponse to his situation in this thread.

I am on the side of NO ID on a signed card (IN MOST CASES)...and I AM EMPLOYED BY WAL*MART

THAT WAS A "STORE LEVEL" DECISION TO DEMAND ID ON ALL CARDS SIGNED OR NOT...AND IT BIT THEM IN THE BUTT

The WAL*MART store card requires ID only when it is TYPED IN MANUALLY

NO ID required when it is signed on the signature stripe (WAL*MART store card)...in most cases

Hey, GEORGE, remember I asked you about the Wal*Mart policy because I had been asked for ID on my Wal*Mart card several times a year or so ago? I think it was the same store. But I didn't sue them!

OK...you didn't sue them...does that have something to do with ATM THEFT???

If you sue a WAL*MART...you SHOULD NOT be able to collect from a FRADULANT WITHDRAWAL OF FUNDS FROM AN ATM???

2*Rite George and if you sue K-Mart it gives a thief the rite to steal your checks and forge them.

Sounds like your brother-in-law has gotten ahold of your mail. I've been banking with Provident since 1987 and they always send the PIN first and then the card later. It never comes at the same time.

Also, I'm surprised that the thief was able to take that much money from your ATM card within a matter of four days. My card only allows up to $500 a day in ATM/Check Card transactions.

I hope you can recover from this loss, but it sounds like you need to change the locks on your mailbox before you open any new checking/savings accounts.

mAYBE i'M DENSE.... What is the problem with presenting my identification with my credit card?

I assumed when I was required to sign the backof my CC this was a method to prove identification, and I wanted that !!

I like wise have a limit on my withdrawls, $300.00 per day.

( just had a thought.. I work in a Casino and the lines get REALLY long just about midnight at the ATM's, they are waiting to get that next $300 or $500 !! I used to make a joke to players "maybe your luck will change at midnight, either your astrological fortune will change or you'll hit it bit on the ATM!)

JUST DON'T MAKE ME SHOW MY ID ON MY SIGNED CARD!!!

Well, an update. I filed a lawsuit against Provident Bank in the District Court of Maryland. I also had a parallel homeowners claim. Nationwide told me that this happend more frequently than one might think. They sent me a check for $1000.00 to help cover the loss (the maximum for this type of claim) and they said that my rates would not be affected because that are going to go after the bank.

They said that they have high powered attorneys that can do this..so we will see...anyways.....I believe that my rates will not go up b/c I was just renewed 2 days ago and..well the rate did go up $15.00 per year, but they added more coverage too...so I am satisfied with $201.00 per year in homeowners ins. cost.

My question is this...since my HO ins gave me $1000.00 and I lost 2497.50...should I amend my complaint to reflect this or do I have to dismiss my complaint since Nationwide is going to recover the $1000 from the bank in court...It didnt even dawn on me to ask this to the adjuster..but I doubt he would know anyway.

You would probably need to check with Nationwide and see if they are suing on your behalf (2497), or only for their loss ($1000).

Provident hasn't been around since 1987, didn't they used to be Citizens Bank of Maryland? I know..they are the only bank that I know of that requires the card to be activated with the PIN...most issuers require the cards to be activated at the cardholders home phone#...that way they can prove receipt.

"MOST" of my new cards say call from HOME or WORK to activate...

...BUT I gave them LINE 1 "IF" I call from line 2 or 3 or 4...IT WON'T ACTIVATE (I ASSUME)

Years ago, I had one card that sent a credit card CERTIFIED R/R (that was AMAZING)

Provident Bank of Maryland has been around since I was a child. . .I ought to know because that's the only bank my mother used.

I've also been banking with them since I was of legal age to have an account (1986/1987). So no, if they did go by Citizens Bank of Maryland it must have been way before my time.

Also, I have to use my Provident card at a bank machine before it is activated.

Provident HAS been around a long time. They may have bought Citizens Bank, I know someone did. So perhaps Provident has only been around your neighborhood for a few years.

It's just like people thinking that BB&T is a new bank because they've only been in Maryland a short time. They bought FCNB, and are in the process of purchasing First Virginia Bank. But BB&T has been around for at least 25 years in North Carolina.

So perhaps Provident just wasn't in your area until recently, but they've been in the Baltimore area "forever."
