There is a post on the motley fool in which the military is warning retirees and others that are separating from the service to NOT file your discharge papers at your county courthouse. The things are public records and many courthouses even allow online viewing. They site an instance where a lawyer was arrested on cc fraud and they found several thousand social security numbers on his laptop. He had gotten them by prowling through public records of former service people.
