I just received a letter from my insurance company stating that someone used my dental insurance for a visit to a dentist in new york city. apparently they told the dentist that they where my adult dependant. I am not old enough to have an adult child and i am not married nor do i have any dependants or live anywhere near new york city. of course the insurance company declined it because i dont have any covered dependants. i'm very frustrated because its the weekend which meens i cant do anything about it right now. my question is don't you have to have youre social security card and youre drivers license with you when you visit a doctor or dentist. this person had to have known my social security number or the dentist would not have been able to make the insurance claim. some people have told me it could be just simple mistake like transposing numbers but somehow i dont believe that. what should i do?

Check out the FTC site for helpful informations.
Did this person try to use your insurance with the insurance id# or your SS#?
I strongly suggest you check your 3 CRA report, and make sure nothing "funny" is in there.
